I just watched Gojira for the first time.
I’m 25.
It was really cool.
(I had no idea Takashi Shimura was in it)

I saw parts of TORQUE. Holy lord.
Gojira tried to eat a train, did I mention how cool that is?
I’ve still yet to see Gojira (although that will be remedied soon), but I only just saw Das Cabinet Des Dr Caligari recently.
I saw Tod Browning’s Freaks for the first time yesterday on TCM. I will soon own it.

There’s another one on my long, long To See list.
I saw The Rules of the Game a month ago. I really liked it and while I don’t agree with many film fans and critics, I sort of see why they consider it to be one of the most important movies in film history.
Peeping Tom. Honestly, it was good and certainly creepy in spots, but the reputation that has grown around it I think may be a little too much. The British Psycho, which is how I most commonly have heard it described as, it ain’t.
metropolis. and i stopped halfway thru because i realized that i wasn’t in the mood for a silent film. which is a mood i’ve never actually been in.
Just saw Maltese Falcon & Midnight Cowboy.
SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON and CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS
Didn’t “just” watch em, but recently saw The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Mark of Zorro for the first time. Loved 'em both. Basil Rathbone is a fucker.
In the last three days, I have seen Brazil and the original The Vanishing for the first time. I’m on a roll.

I still need to watch the latter. If only the DVD was more easily obtainable…
I finally finished “The Deer Hunter”. Such a gripping movie- but I’ll never make it through that wedding scene again.
Also, I finally completed the “Robocop” trilogy, which leaves me… complete.

I think watching the first one is complete enough.

Netflix has it. It’s got a shitty audio track, but it’s in french anyway so you’ll have the subtitles on.

I can find the DVD here in the UK, just not cheaply.
When I find an affordable copy or suddenly have large quantities of money I’ll pick it up.
I just watched the first of many sequels to Gojira: Gojira no gyakushû. I thought it was a worthy sequel. The biggest drawback was alot of long pointless aerial shots where I could just imagine the director saying “Well it cost us alot of money and effort to get these shots, lets show as much footage that we shot!” and it hurts the film, but other than that I had a blast. Two monsters beating each other up in the middle of a city: gold.
At one point they’re battling next to Osaka’s famous castle and I’m thinking “No way man, they wouldnt dare destroy that landmark, its the Japanese, they wouldnt…” and they’re fighting and getting nearer and nearer, small cracks are appearing in the castle walls and then suddenly Gojira just THROWS ANGILUS THROUGH THE CASTLE smashing it to bits. I laughed so hard. The inner child in me likes the Gojira movies I’ve discovered, and its funny because some of the shots have toys but I’m having so much fun it doesnt really jar me or pull me out of the movie.
There were some shots that actually looked really great in this, when the monsters are stumbling off a cliff into the ocean, stuff like that looks iconic for a brief moment, and it just makes me even more annoyed that the American remake fucked it up so badly. You could make such a stylish Gojira movie really, in the hands of someone like Aronofsky, Fincher or even Tarantino it would be amazing.
Anyway, cant believe I just wrote three long paragraphs on a Gojira sequel. Gojira V King Kong next…
EDIT: Also the city preparing for Gojira’s attack by turning off all the lights was very atmospheric and again nicely tied into the WW2, there’s a nice mix of farcicality and seriousness. I was pondering what the American remake would have been like if the first place Godzilla attacks was Pearl Harbor…
Did you really just suggest an Aronofsky Godzilla movie?
