Loved the fact that they played “Rush of Blood to the Head” in the scenes where Nate and Lisa were talking.
I dunno - things seemed too simple for Nate in the show, though. The fact that he saw, in ways, many of the things that would happen to him seven months after the surgery, make me think he’s still actually laying on the table in the hospital. We’ll see.
If this whole season turns out to be a dream, I’m going to set myself on fire.

Good analysis, Deev. I agree with you on many of those points. I would like to see Billy return and perhaps Nikolai as well.
I watched 24 tonight. I was blown away. I then watched Crank Yankers, and I laughed my ass off. I figured damn, that was a hell of a night for television. Then I noticed that HBO was replaying the premiere of SFU at 10. I missed it Sunday, so as you probably assumed I was ecstatic. I didn’t know what to expect, I assumed that maybe the show would drop off in quality a little bit.
Holy shit I was wrong. I really thought they killed him off. I didn’t hear half the diologue in the first ten minutes because I sat there watching it with a friend and we had a really odd exchange.
“Holy fucking shit!”
“I know!”
“They fucking killed him!”
“I know man.”
“Dude, that means he is going to be dead all season. This is going to be like the fucking Christmas Carol all season.”
“I know man, this is crazy.”
It went on and on until the big twist. He wasn’t fucking dead. What a great damn episode. It could have been my favorite episode so far. I am really looking forward to seeing this all play out.
With all of the “premonitions” occurring seven months after Nate’s short death (he did die for a second right?) on the operating table, I have to think someone is about to die on the show.
My guess would be either Lisa or Maya. Thoughts?
By the way, LOVE the show.
Saw it again last nite, and liked the episode more. I love the one alternate reality where the Dad is still alive and eating dinner with his family. Nate is furiously arguing the 2000 election, but you can see that he’s also furiously ‘rebelling’ against his father, and he’s pushing 30, at least.
When the Dad died, the family dynamic completely changed, and it forced Nate to define himself in other ways than playing the angry young man against the establishment role.
I don’t know, I just thought it was interesting..
Oh yeah, just for freakish value, I also liked genetically-different-because-he-has-a- different-Mom-Nate, along with his sister who vaguely resembles David. Creepy.

Eh, the episode was OK. So far, i’m not particularly thrilled with this season.
It’s like, I knew Nate and Lisa were living together after having the baby, sure…but they got married? Huh? What the hell?
I’m quickly getting sick of, as David puts it, Rico’s “moral superiority”. He’s just been acting like a real jerk.
Claire deciding to not get rid of the band guy was sorta surprising…I thought for sure after his announcement that he didn’t think they were “exclusive” and that he fucks other girls that she would kick him out of the house. It’s almost like she got off on the fact that she is one of many girls he sees.

My wife and I actually got into a debate over this. She totally agreed with Rico. I didn’t really, but I could see his point.

Claire has self esteem issues.
Mostly enjoyed the Ruth storyline. I liked when Kathy Bates told the sister something like “you told me to help you quit,” and she says “I was high!” Gotta love that logic.
Well it’s already becoming quite clear that Nate is beginning to get sick of Lisa’s nagging, just as Lisa is with her boss. I’m counting the days until Brenda comes back.
I really liked how they did the opening death. They threw me for a curve. I was so expecting the guy on the phone to get incinerated and then it turns around and multiple people are killed in a murder-suicide disgruntled rampage on the other side of the phone. Great stuff.
So far, this season seems a lot more casual, but I’m not complaining. Besides, once Brenda comes back, hopefully with Billy in tow, things will get all mixed up like they really should be.
It’s weird. I can never pinpoint exactly why I like this season. Nothing major has really happened yet. But when the end credits started rolling in the last episode, I was totally thrown for a loop because I didn’t want it to end.
I absolutely love Sarah and I hope she gets more screen time as the season progresses.
Questions I have:

Why does Nate and his wife live in Catherine O’Harra’s residence when I’m sure Nate can afford to get his own apartment? That seems minor, but it really seems unrealistic that Nate’s family is living in ‘servant’s quarters’ when he has a decent job. Why can’t his wife commute? I guess the answer is that O’Harra’s character needs constant care. This one is a real minor point.

I think someone said this earlier, but it does seem extremely strange how simple everything is all of a sudden for Nate. He got married and he’s totally over Brenda? It just seems a too smooth transition, which makes me think that there is more to this than meets the eye.
Whatever, I am totally enjoying this season so far …
- You answered your own question. Lisa’s boss is so demanding that it would be near impossible for her to do her job, raise a kid, and take care of any personal things (laundry, cleaning, cooking) if she lived elsewhere.
And although Nate has a “decent job,” he’s far from being rich. I mean Rico’s a partner because they needed his cash for the funeral home to stay open. And on top of all the medical expenses he has, I’m sure living for free (I’m assuming) in Lisa’s boss’s house would be ideal to save up for their own place.
- We;ll we are getting a sense of Nate and Lisa’s troubles (mainly regarding raising the baby). They are far from the perfect couple and when Brenda returns, it’ll put their marriage to the test I’m sure.
The first truly “great” episode of the season.
First, Claire’s new art teacher was awesome. The guy was almost inspiring in a way. “You must take what is inside of you and confront what is outside of you”. Good advice…
David and Keith were interesting. I thought it was funny all the imaginary reactions they were getting when they arrived at the pool. Also, them singing in bed was hilarious. They’re the best gay couple on television, if that sounds weird enough.
I knew Lisa would get fired/quit soon enough. And Nate…what the fuck was he doing in his car? Or, more like “why” was he doing it? I might have missed the explanation since at one point I was on the phone. But, I can’t imagine there being an explanation to that. Could he be sexually frustrated since Lisa is always so busy?
So now Claire’s done with this guy. I wonder if Billy’s return is gonna mean that him and her get together again…but I doubt it.
