I thought McKean was there a tad longer than one season but maybe I was wrong. All I really remember was that he did a pretty good Howard Stern.
Chris Elliott was the guy who came on for one season that I was so hyped about and ended up being wasted. Did better than Garofalo at least.
As long as I get more cowbell (I thought the sketch was early 00’s, but the commercial showed a clip) I’m in.
I know this is sort of off-topic but is the cowbell sketch really that funny? I mean it was cute and all but this, I dunno, pop-culture phenomenon it inspired seems a little much.
It’s fantastic. But it’s the SCARFACE of “SNL” sketches. Don’t let its pop culture aspect get in the way of the sketch itself.
I think the cowbell sketch is pretty terrible. Walken is okay but Ferrell is way overhyped in the bit. I’d rather see the bit about the “lovahs” who eat salted cured meats and screw passionately.
Is Jan Hooks still alive?
Look, just give me a Seagal story, a Dice Clay story, and a couple of Marty and Bobbi Mulhan Culp sketches and I’ll be fine.
I hated the Culps. They got run into the ground faster than even the Cheerleaders.
The turning point for the decade was the ousting of Macdonald followed shortly by the rise of Fallon.

Anyone else think that the “Joyologist” sketches were probably the worst recurring bit in the history of the show?

I’ll see your Joyologist and raise you Cheri Oteri’s Simma Down Lady. I always had to change the channel when that character returned.

That’s weird. I actually like the Target Lady. Although, it might be because I feel that Wiig is a better performer then Oteri. To each his own.
I never liked Simma Down Now, but Wong & Owens: Ex Porn Stars was pretty good.
But let’s not forget Robert Goulet, Neil “This song is about the time I killed a homeless guy to get an erection” Diamond and Harrey “Hey Norm!” Carrey.
Also, it got overplayed once YouTube/BitTorrent/Napster hit, but much love for Celebrity Jepoardy and Hammond’s Connery.

It will never happen in a million years, but they NEED to run “The Go-Lords vs. James Cameron” again.
This show needed mercy killing a long, long time ago. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, SNL, along with The Simpsons, has hit that point of being American iconography, all but guaranteeing a life long past the point where people really care about it anymore. It’ll just keep going on like a horse with a broken leg that nobody has the heart to shoot, until it finally falls face down in the water trough and drowns.
