Great stuff. I liked that the dead people talking was toned down a bit from last episode. I really like how Leary and Co. are able to mix laugh out loud humor with serious issues on this show, and also previously on the JOB.
I can live with Tommy talking to his dead cousin, but not him seeing a dead person every 5 minutes on the show.
Just awesome tonight. I’m loving this show more with every episode.
I am REALLY liking this show. It’s funny as hell and has some damn fine dramatic moments. I liked the little bit where he’s looking through the binoculars and tells his (dead) friend to check something out and it’s his daughter’s boyfriend. It was just a nice little moment, I thought. And the subs when talking to his father were great.
yeah liked the subtitles on the phone conversation. eerily similar to my own phone conversations with my dad…
not sure they really needed to make the chief’s son gay, kind of hammering that point home a bit too much. but the way the rest of that storyline is going is real compelling.
poetry man’s wife was real supportive too…right.

It was great seeing Charles Durning pop up as his father. Those subtitles were awesome!
And I loved the line that Tommy said to his daughter when he discovered her shamrock tattoo.
“If you want to be a proud Irish, march in a parade, wave a flag, have 100 kids.”
This show is quickly becoming my favorite new show on TV. I’ll definitely be picking this up when it hits DVD.
I liked the part when Tommy was talking to his cousin’s wife.
“Sometimes I just want to cry all day and curse God’s name.”
“Yeah I do that, except the crying’s replaced with whiskey and black rage.”
I think they poetry guy’s wife is going to do something with his poems. She WAS crying a lot while reading them, and it seemed like a cover up when she said they were awful.
i really liked tonight’s episode. I also feel that the wife is covering up her true feelings about the poetry. I am very interested in all the characters here. I am wondering where they are going to go with that possibly gay dude trying to take out the rook firefighter.
Once again, I must say I am very happy that they have toned down the talking to dead people bit. I like tommy and his cousin talking, but the first two eps it was a bit overdone.

Pretty powerful stuff. And an impressive bit of acting on Leary’s part. He really slips into the character so well that I forget he is acting the role. Interesting twist with the secret admirer dude. And Franco’s Ex = HOT, where have I seen her before?
The storyline with the daughter and the accident is pretty strong. I like it. Lets see what happens from here.
There was a bit of a shock to the scene in the church when he looks at Jimmy and his daughter is sitting on the pew behind him. This show still remains my 2nd favorite of this year, right under the Shield.
…and that Von Bondies song for the title just rocks.
This is show if great fun. I like it more and more each episode. The shot of his daughter at the end was a punch to the gut. It felt painful and shocking, just like I imagine Leary felt it. FX gets all the good shows…
I’m enjoying the hell out of this show. I hope it gets picked up for another season. Leary’s been a screwing a girl for a while and doesn’t even know her name, heh.

She was in Arrested Development and The Mummy movies.
Saw this week’s episode and forgot to post about how much I enjoyed it. Franco’s psycho ex, Nez, was an interesting new character. Looks like she gets whats coming to her next week from being a cokehead.

Just an absolutely great episode. I think they wrapped up the Chief’s hearing too quickly, but it worked well…I didn’t like that he still alienated his son though. The last scene with Tommy getting beat down by the suits was brutal to watch. There’s gotta be some serious retribution for that disgrace.
There’s just so much in this episode that was just great: Tommy throwing down with Roger. Tommy working the gifts with the Murphy kid. Tommy talking to the dead girl…damn that was harsh. The poetry guy’s poem on the wall (which really did suck, btw), and the whole deal with the little girl and the crack whore. Not to mention Tommy and his dad and uncle with the prostitutes…I mean…yikes.
I’ve said it before…this show gets better and better with every episode.
you know this was one of those hours of television where it totally engrosses you and you forget the time. That was some really really good tv. I am glad that Tommy got retribution for fucking with Roger so much because the character is flawed and real. I was beginning to think he is getting too much of afree ride with the fucking up roger’s life thing.
The chief’s son not being introduced was tough. Tommy’s father and his breakdown after all these years of marriage was great too.
Franco and his daughter was great.
But the best thing was the dead girl in the apt building. I thought it was real. I was totally duped. When the paramedic said she died instantly, i was like OH SHIT he was talking to dead ppl again. And the dead girl disappearing…I am thinking maybe as tommy works out all his inner demons, all these “dead people” in his life will start to disappear?
I don’t want Jimmy to disappear…and I seriously doubt Tommy does either. You could see the conflict in him when he realized that she disappeared about the time he snuck into the church to pray, and that he could possibly do the same with Jimmy, but he wasn’t sure if he really wants to or not.

Agree on all points. It was certainly one of the best episodes yet.
