It was hard to tell how much of it was new footage and how much of it was from last season. It mostly consisted of the obit for Lem.
Rescue Me was great as well. Loved Tommy trying to explain sex to Damion and the porn they Lou was watching.
It was okay, but the brother/ex-wife stuff feels a bit soap opera-like at this point. Though this is one show that might be able to make that type of triangle work.
In just one scene Uncle Teddy had the best line: “This murder one is the best goddamn diet I’ve ever been on.”
Great opening episode. The stuff around the firehouse was aces, as always. Loved “Sister Mary Shovelface.”
Tommy’s ex going with his brother was rather obvious but could be fun.
I’m interested what Susan Sarandon will get to do.
One thing I forgot to mention was when Janet and Tommy were arguing and she said something along the lines of being glad their son was dead so she wouldn’t have to see him grow up to become like Tommy. That was a real punch.

My mom and I looked at each other and just said “ouch” in unison.
Andrea Roth (Tommy’s wife) is pretty damn hot.
Best part was Tommy’s reaction when he thought the old lady was the teacher Damien was nailin’ - “OH MY GOD!!” - and then the sense of relief when he realized she was younger…

It looked like it had some new scenes from the upcoming episodes in the promo. They also ran a promo for Nip/Tuck, saying it would return in September. With The Shield promo just saying coming soon, it really got my hopes up that they would run it in between Rescue Me and Nip/Tuck.
Plus, did anyone watch the encore episode tonight? There was another Shield promo, but it wasn’t the same one as before. This one had a voice over that said something along the lines of “A special 10 episode extension of a great season” or something…
great opening man. I agree that Tommy’s bro getting with Janet seemed to be hinted at for along time last season…I don’t really like it too much because it seems out of character for Janet and seems like an un-keepable secret with the 2 girls in the house, but it does have great shock value.
The stuff at the firehouse was great.
Lou…was just sad to watch man. I really felt for the guy.
Looking forward to another great season.
And yes Andrea Roth is fucking smoking (no pun intended)

I had heard that they were planning on calling the remaining episodes an extension, but I’m not really a fan of this. To me, the last episode ended perfectly and really wrapped up what the season had been leading up to. It really won’t make that much of a difference either way, but I do hope the producers and FX decide to go ahead and call it Season 6 rather than a continuation of Season 5.
Everyone seems to talk about how hot Andrea Roth is but I don’t think she’s anywhere as hot as Callie Thorne.

They will call it season 6 when the sell the DVD’s.
Andrea Roth is hotter. Maybe I just have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Callie Thorne because when she came on Homicide started to suck.
And that comedy short is great. Good enough to have been part of an episode.

Holy shit… Tommy beat the shit out of his brother. I honestly can’t believe a group of firefighters couldn’t keep him from throwing him through the window.
Oh yes, and his launching of Janet across the hood of that car was very surprising.
I was hoping and hoping that Tommy was gonna be able to hold his rage until another time and place…but holy shit.
And I’m glad he tossed the wife across the hood of the car.
Oh… and Kenny’s desperation and slow sprial has so far been one of the most interesting “quiet” character plotlines to watch so far.

A pretty good episode overall, espically with the fight at the end. I wasn’t expecting it to go as far as it did. Is it just me though, or are they determined to end every episode with a slow motion scene or montage set to indy rock (I didn’t notice this until EW pointed it in their year end issue, but after going back and watching the previous episodes and now this one, it’s really becoming distracting).
The best scene of the night though was Kenny’s speech about how he just thought about sitting in the car and bleeding out. Scruti is my fav. actor on the show and seeing him sink deeper and deeper into depression like this is killing me.
I think it’s an F/X rule that all their dramas end with a montage/musical note like that. But man, tonight’s ending was all kinds of brutal.
Perhaps it’s my hatred for all things Sarandon but I’m not buying that shit for a second.
