I realize this doesn’t start up for another month, but I thought I would post this bit of news for the fans.

Is it just me, or is FX been hammering the ads for this into the ground and beyond. When I watched Thief last week, they showed an ad for the upcoming season of Rescue Me during every single commerical break, as well as blasting the graphic ad up every time the show came back on. I realize just about all the networks do this when pimping a new show, but to me, this seemed to be more annoying than usual.
That’s pretty much normal procedure for F/X. All during “Nip/Tuck” they went bonkers with ads for “The Shield.” During “The Shield” it was endless ads for “Thief.” For “Thief” it has been a barrage for “Rescue Me.” I don’t really mind seeing a ton of ads for good shows. It’s the non-stop promos for ‘Black and White” that had me throwing up a bit in my mouth, some of which spilled over to my carpet.

I gotta say, I just re-watched season 2 on DVD and for my bucks, as The Wire has not yet returned, this is the best show on TV. Fuck BSG, fuck Lost. Great shows, but for realism, drama, and humour, nothing can touch Rescue Me. That last show, where Tommy’s sister is expressing her sympathies while ogling the probie, is so fucking great. And getting Tommy to stay on the wagon was a wise choice, no David Milch cop-out. Can’t wait for Season 3.

I like the Shield, but they kept the status quo too long. All those years pulling all that shit, and just now (SPOILERS) a member of the strike team gets around to knocking off another? That was telegraphed years ago and they just got around to doing it. Still a great show, though.

I agree. I am really excited about Season 3 now. That was hilarious!
My local paper gave this season (they usually give the critic here the first 3 to 4 shows) 4 out of 5 stars, saying the premiere “delivers a jaw-dropping fadeout.” And “episode two builds to a furious emotional payoff.” But it also mentions that “a subplot about Tommy’s godson might go too far, even for this show.”
Great premiere. I loved the ending scenes with Tommy beating the life back into the little girl.
The smoking bet was humorous… something I didn’t realize the whole crew did (smoke).
The preview for the rest of the season looks to get down and dirty with our crew.
As for the Shield promo, there was a lot of quick shots… one that sticks with me is a bathroom door being opened and there being blood everywhere. But that’s probably just one of the crimes they investigate throughout the season.
