I liked it more than the Revolution pilot, and it had a minimal amount of network dumbness for a military centered show. We’ll see.
Solid start, but definitely no Shield. It’s moderately slick, without any style of it’s own. There are some pretty blah spots in the cast, too.
I’ll keep watching. It all depends on the plots/scripts they have in the pipeline.
Have the networks soured on the idea of 2-part pilots? This and Revolution both could have used one to make a deeper initial impression. As it is, I have a hard time imagining the rest of America getting hooked with this little to go on.
I haven’t seen the pilot, but I’m having a hard time seeing how they’ll sustain a series with this concept.
Quote:
I imagine why they put some blatant character-related cliffhangers, the SEALs mysteriously blaming themselves for what happened, the two kidnapped crew members, Robert Patrick mysteriously still alive after a pilot where he’s a military guy.
I do wonder how much will be set on the island and how much is on the sub. The island was probably added partially to give them an additional playbox to come up with ideas to keep the story moving forward.
I agree ir’s better than Revolution and that I wonder how they will sustain this.
I would guess they will have to focus atleast a quarter to third of the time in D.C. with Bruce Davidson and Autumn Reeser(yes! still hot).
Also a nuke attack on Pakistan would cause WW3 so how are they going to get out of that? The next episode will tell me alot about whether I stick around.
Nice to see Ronnie again. Though they should have made Lem a Seal so he could die by grenade.
Really? I didn’t notice David Rees Snell at all. What part did he play?
That was one thing that bugged me. Obviously some as of yet unseen nefarious people were clamoring for war with Pakistan, but how was the original plan supposed to work? What if Braugher had actually launched the nukes? What would be the justification for a first strike like that? The refusal gave them a perfect scapegoat in the “sinking,” but surely they weren’t originally counting on that turn of events.
Still, enjoyed it well enough to check out the next few episodes (and the lesser Revolution, admittedly.)
The SEALs implied that they did something wrong which led to the nukes flying into Pakistan. They made a bad/incorrect call or they were targetting the wrong people.
Presumably we’ll find out more about what exactly they did that resulted in war.
Yeah, got that. Just seems like nuclear escalation is a bit overkill to cover up whatever fubar situation the SEALs were initially involved in. I’m curious to see how things develop. I just hope the answer won’t turn out to be, “We knew he wouldn’t fire the nukes all along, so we could then attack the sub, and use it as an excuse to actually nuke Pakistan. Oh, and we put a prototype thingie on his sub, that would make it obvious to third parties that it was an American missile all along.”
It would be weak if they relied on both the captain and the XO not following orders in order to justify it. Unless it’s revealed later, I’m assuming that that wasn’t the original justification.
As it is, they’d still need to take care of the NATO outpost that knew that it wasn’t Pakistan that fired on the Colorado.
Snell was a SEAL. He was injured through out and was in the hospital bed at the end.
I don’t think anything the SEALS did “wrong” sparked the nuke attack as a cover. I believe the nuke attack was planned all along. With the joint chiefs resigning, the President under the impeachment process it looks to me more like a splinter set of American military/government who wanted this to happen. The sub had some sort of cloaking device so I assume they wanted nobody to know who launched them. The SEALS mission was important. Maybe to locate cetain leaders or Pakistans own nuke sites.
That’s why I think the 2nd episode is important. If Pakistan got nuked they would hit India right back.
Yeah, the prototype made it so the missile from the Colorado would not be traceable, was how I understood it. Beyond that, the basis of the entire show seems to be uncovering what was really going on. What I wonder is once we get to the bottom of the conspiracy, what happens next season? I’ll stick around just to see if they have the balls to have this culminate in a full blown WW3 and turn the series completely post-apocalyptic. That’s a season 2 I would definitely rune in for.
The set up is intriguing, the biggest issue right now is that outside of Braugher the cast feels pretty bland. But it’s a pilot, they’ll be plenty of time for those folks to prove themselves. Hopefully they start by filling in Patrick and Snell, as I know those guys can handle it.

Oh, I guess it actually premieres on TV this week on Thursday.
Thought this was great. I have know idea how they’re going to sustain this for multiple seasons, but I’m in.
I’ve mentioned this show to a few friends during the preseason when talking about Revolution, and they showed no interest in it. I don’t recall seeing much advertising for it, but I don’t watch much ABC, so I wonder how well it’ll do. Its really gonna piss me off, if Revolution takes off in the ratings and this doesn’t.
I really liked this but it does need to work on the support cast. The leads are suitibly excellent. Braugher is defnitely suitable for the skipper.
It always amazes me that with the vast amount of extremely talented yet unemployed actors out there, networks cant seem to find any of them for their shows.
I dug! With reservations.
Hopefully, characters will be more fleshed out in the (long) life of the series.
Hopefully, what has happened will have CONSEQUENCES. Dropping a nuke 200 miles off the coast is not something a nice man does.
Hopefully, Andre will get his Kurtz on.
Hopefully, next week’s episode won’t feel like 3 hours crammed into 1.
That being said, Braugher’s end monologue was fantastic. THAT’S why you hire a fucking ACTOR. Some badass, really riveting stuff.
AV Club had three episode screeners, and they indeed said the characters get more fleshed out fairly quickly. But they also said don’t expect the same budget as the opener.
