I don’t know what singling out genre fare has to do with it. You could just as easily say “sports”, “reality tv”, or “cooking shows”, for that matter. It’s got nothing to do with “weird”. People have different tastes.

Forgot about that, Jacob. HBO owns my Sunday completely, tho I lost interest in Deadwood recently (doesn’t matter…the season’s over, and I’ll check out season three when it airs). Now, Entourage is returning, and I want to give the Lisa Kudrow thing a chance, too. So, virtually anything up against that block that is not Family Guy will get ignored, including Arrested Development, Desparate Housewives, The West Wing, Law & Order, and so on.

Those don’t tend to be the kind of uniformly awful TV shows that CHUD posters dedicate themselves to.
Perhaps, but a quick glance at the forum and I see quite a few interesting and intelligent non-genre threads. Hell, the Farscape thread has one reply in it.
But I understand your meaning, and I’ll be the first to admit that even if DH was on another night, chances are I wouldn’t watch it. I guess the question is, how obligated are we to check out shows that don’t initially appeal to us?
If you ever complain about television sucking and there’s a show that’s getting great reviews, ratings and winning awards, you should probably check it out.

It’s scary. Once again I pretty much agree with devincf. I like LOST a bit more then he apparently does, and very much like FARSCAPE, but he is dead right in a lot of fanboys will not give Desperate Housewives a chance because it is not a Geek show.
BTW am I the only one who finds Marcia Cross the most actractive of the Housewives?
Huffman give the best performance but for some reason Bree is the one who appeals to me…
I like Lost a whole bunch. I just think there’s no way to deny that the storytelling on Housewives is simply better. Enough was wrapped up at the end of the season to give it the feeling of a whole, while enough was set up for next to get me excited. I feel like I read the first book in a series. If I choose to stop here, it’s complete enough. Lost will not end the season like that.

She’s plenty hot, that’s true…but Huffman really does it for me! I know most people go for Longoria, but there is something so smart, funny and sexy about Huffman…kind of like McDormand…you just know that she would rock your world in every way whereas Longoria would kick you out of bed as soon as she was done!
Marcia Cross is what convinced me to sit through an episode (in french no less) and luckily, it was the trench coat one. I was really surprised. It’s really not trashy or soapy as the ads were suggesting. I’ll probably try the reruns this summer.
I must admit I had dismissed the show as crap without having seen an episode. I did the same thing with The OC. I was wrong on both counts.
Devin, SF and genre shows aren’t the only ones that develop cult fanbases. Remember My So-Called Life? Or that one show about a girl overseas, or something, which the fans tried to save by sending in soup cans?
Genre shows tend to be the only ones that develop cult fanbases regardless of whether they are any good at all.
IE, Farscape
I’ve watched Desperate Housewives all season long. It’s one of my wife’s favorite shows and while I think the dialogue and acting are both top notch it is a bit too much of a soap opera for me to stick with it too much longer.
