Just when I thought this show couldn’t get anymore insane they go and introduce Admiral Whiskers…
I demand a showdown between Lemmiwinks and Admiral Whiskers.
Another great episode this week, possibly my favorite so far. Danny was such a fun character. Loved the musical number too. Also, Jane’s really hot as a Blonde (minus the dyed eyebrows).
Really wish we’d gotten just a bit more of the robot dance off in there. Oh well, doesn’t matter, Karen’s the worst.
The actress playing Jane continues to kill it. must learn her name.
Google sez: Diane Guerrero! IMDB sez: was in Orange is the New Black! Never saw it! Is she good in that?
That was sweet. And then bittersweet. And there was robot breakdancing. So, so weird. I can’t believe how much I am enjoying this show.
Yes, she was.
God damn, I love this show! Apart from trying to explain it to people, that is.
I’ve watched the episode a couple of times now and that smash cut back to Larry in the booth legitimately breaks my heart every time. Such a huge gut punch.
Agreed. You spend that whole scene thinking that Larry’s finally learned to accept himself and being happy for him. Then that smash cut brings you back to the harsh reality.
I wonder if Danny giving Vic the comic book is going to come back to bite them in the ass (does a living street have an ass?). They’ve already shown how dangerous Mr. Nobody is in the episode with the original Doom Patrol. Maybe they’ll raise the stakes by having Nobody go after someone the group cares about. So either Danny or Maura Lee Karupt.
On paper, you’d think I’d like this (I enjoyed Titans).
But I’m not. Umpteen flashbacks, really not engaged with the characters … I’m not sure why it isn’t clicking.
**Fraser’s robot body. Yeah. If he can’t feel anything, he’d just go fucking insane almost immediately. Also, how is he supposed to be able to walk or interact with anything with no feedback sensation?
Overlord, just curious, how many episodes have you watched so far? This seems like a pretty flashback-heavy show à la Lost so that might be something you just gotta roll with. You make a good point about Cliff and honestly I don’t have a good answer besides hand-waving it as comic book logic. He does have a psychotic episode related to his inability to feel anything in “Therapy Patrol” but you might not be satisfied with the explanation for what brought it on.
Today’s episode was pretty light on the laughs but given the subject matter (Jane’s childhood abuse), that made sense. It was nice to see the Negative Spirit contributing to the group again. It’s basically their 7th member if you count Niles.
I am on pause a few minutes into third episode.
**I want to like this.
I know we have a DC Universe thread, but since this one’s more active I’ll post this here:
‘Swamp Thing’ Order Reduced as DC Universe’s Role in WarnerMedia Streaming Plans Unclear
I really hope Doom Patrol doesn’t get cancelled just because Warner Bros doesn’t think they can compete with Disney. Or if it does, hopefully Netflix picks it up.
Strange development. It could be because of the streaming situation, though I don’t know why they wouldn’t finish up the season if there’s a chance it could go to another home. I’m sure they could sell Titans and Doom Patrol to other platforms if need be. The other possibility is that the show isn’t coming out great and they’ve decided to cut their losses.
All the DC shows are on Netflix in Europe right? That’s how I watched Titans (which I really liked, who would have thought that). I’ve almost considered getting the DC streaming service but they just don’t have the content to warrant over a hundy a year. Even if they do have a bazillion comics on there. If they can’t maintain the streaming service on Netflix to take over from the Marvel properties that Disney is cancelling/moving to their own streaming service.
Well…that was certainly a weird one. I legitimately gagged when Beard Hunter was extracting Niles’ “essence.” Speaking of, it was nice to get more of Niles’ back story as well as another scene with Mr. Nobody.
I’m guessing they’re setting up Cyborg’s Grid up to be a villain in the next season. Apparently Grid is one of Cyborg’s biggest enemies in the comics.
I look forward to new episodes of this show the way some people look forward to new Marvel Movies, or Thrones episodes.
Was that DC streaming Dorothy Spinner? But in love with the Chief? Also, Beard Hunter clearly has a lead on the Chief, but those weird staircases lead him to “Dorothy’s” creature? But Rita placed Vic’s tracker on Beard Hunter so I guess they’ll have a lead next episode…
My one general complaint about this show is I don’t think they quite know what to do with Rita…her trying to be normal/failing at it/trying again thing only goes so far.
Loved the teaser for the eventual appearance of Flex frigging Mentallo on this show.
I have a feeling Dorothy Spinner will turn out to be the daughter of Niles and the wild woman and that Mr. Nobody is looking for her because her powers rival or even surpass his own.
I agree they need to do more with Rita although I’m glad the actress is doing this and not stuck doing shit like Two and a Half Men, where she played Jon Cryer’s ditzy girlfriend.
The body horror stuff with Vic this week was super creepy. That and when Grid told him, “What’s happening inside you is extraordinary.”

Yeah, shit with Vic is getting creepy as hell. I don’t know DC stuff half as much as Marvel because it was a minor miracle I got the comics I DID get where I grew up, but I remember having some of his comics from the early-mid 80s. I guess there’s a whole bunch of his lore I wouldn’t have a clue about, but I’m keen to see where it goes. Can I also say, budget restrictions be damned - I much, MUCH prefer his look on this show to whatever that abomination in the JL movie was. Seriously, what is the idea behind fabricating a body that has eleventy billion angles and pieces to it?! The show version looks much better for my money.
Also, loving Larry’s story progression . . . they’re just handling it so well. When he got pulled out of his dream at the exact wrong moment and back to what was basically the end of the Jane-centric episode, I actually let out a “NO!!!”.
