COD: Black Ops the Third

If you like the previous installments, you will like this one. If you hate the previous installments, you will hate this one. Nothing in this one is going to change your mind one way or the other. Having said that, this game is miles better than last year’s entry, at least as far as multiplayer is concerned.

Elevating this year’s model over previous years is the inclusion of the “specialists”. There are nine selectable specialists to chose from and each one has it’s own special abilities (or supers) that build up over the course of a battle. Unlike kill-streak rewards, these supers continue to build even through death…and they are pretty badass.

I heard a lot of grumbling pre-release about the ability to jump around and running on walls…it’s really not a huge deal. There are some runners and gunners that like flying around, bounding off walls with regularity, but I think it’s something that is used sporadically for most players.

For those who like PvP, it’s a fun game.

I have only played a couple hours of MW2. Thats it as far as my CoD experience goes.

But this game is the shit. Fallout 4 is gonna be delivered to my house this afternoon but I might have to blow it off to play some more CODBLOPS.

I have it as well, bob. My COD skills have grown extremely rusty, but I’d like to play a few matches with you and EMC, just for funsies and old times sake.

It’s pretty addicting. You will struggle in the beginning finding your rhythm and finding the playstyle that suits you, but you’ll get the hang of it.

It’s funny, I play this game completely the opposite of how I played PvP in Destiny. In Destiny I was ultra aggressive running around with a shotgun. In COD I prefer sniping and fortifying my space.

Doubtful. I’ll still suck at it.

My oldest has asked for this for Christmas…

I may or may not have already ordered it for him to sit in the closet until then. I may or may not be contemplating pulling the disc out and playing some matches after he goes to sleep.

The toughest part is just finding which guns work best with your play style because there are so many to choose from. You’ve also got a multitude of grenades and explosives. You can really customize your guy.

Much like Destiny there are several different types of PvP other than just the normal Team Deathmatch. If we got enough players I would be willing to give some of the more team oriented ones a shot.

For sure, B. Hit me up. Since CoD is more just drop in and fuck shit up, my pitiful levels shouldn’t be too much of a hindrance. I have a real nice SMG/Prophet setup going on. Would be credit to the team.

We want to win tho…

There are enough good guns available in the very beginning that level doesn’t really matter as long as you know what you are doing. Obviously leveling up the gun will give you better perks…you just need to find a gun you like and stick with it.

I’m fine with anybody jumping into my games (even Zhukov). I’m usually paired up with EMC and we’re just running team deathmatches. We’ll probably start branching out and trying other modes once we get leveled up.

So on a whim, I decided to pick this one up yesterday. Keep in mind I haven’t played a Call of Duty game in years(probably PS2 era) but figured if enough of us are playing it as an alternate at least - I’ll at least give it a fair shake. I’ll start off with the campaign for awhile (knowing that it’s pretty short) but at least use that as somewhat of a primer for how CoD feels over other shooters.

Honestly, looking at some streams, I’m not sure what the appeal is to Domination (which looks like CoD’s version of Destiny’s Control) but that’s part of why I picked it up - to actually play a bit for myself and make a truly informed decision. If nothing else, with a group, Zombies does look like it could be fun - at least for awhile.

APeople like to play Domination because it’s the longest game type and they can get their longer kill streaks.

Or deathstreaks…hey-o!

Guys, join up with EMC and I. It can be a lot of fun on the team Deathmatch front, especially with 4,5 or 6 of us. We can employ some cool strategies, and we can try some different game types. All of the Destiny crew is welcome. Just hop into my chat when you want to play.

Just installed the dang thing last night - let me at least get my feet wet and that was kinda the plan. Besides, I’m pretty sure I’ll be lost in the beginning on how leveling in multiplayer works and what not.

Ugh. My kid and his fucking grades… I may not jump on this if he doesn’t get his shit together because him owning this game is contingent upon me getting around to playing it.

No pussyfooting Dave, you jump in right now.

So the way it works is you just basically get experience during and after every battle. Every time you level you will unlock a new gun or a new perk or both. Fortunately two of the best guns are available from level 1. The Kuda is the first SMG and the KN-44 is the first Assault Rifle. The more you use a certain gun, the more attachments you unlock for that gun. The thing you have to figure out is what type of player you are. I am not a runner and a gunnar. I don’t know if my reaction speed is just worse than the 15 year-old I’m playing against, but I am much better as a Sniper/Light Machine Gun user. I like setting traps with my mines and letting the more aggressive players run right into them. And then of course it’s map recognition, which you won’t have in the beginning. You will probably get your ass kicked for a bit but once you figure it out you will be more successful.

Double XP weekend. Daggers, get your shit together, EMC and I will be on tonight.

I gotta go see the GZA of Wu Tang Clan this evening. I will jump on after that tho.
