Incredible, curious what Caleb is…you know besides a bad ass evil force. Oh and by the way nice to see Spike evening up with everyone else. Last season it seemed like Buffy was always a better fighter than him. Just saying its to know when spike hit caleb it is just as affective as when buffy did it, in fact Spike got the first good hit on him. And did anyone else jump up out of their chair when the Xander scene came up?
Unbelievable. As dark an ending as the beginning was light and funny.

To disfigure such a beloved character in such a graphic (no cutaway to Spike’s reaction) way was really quite awesome. Xander’s scream was absolutely chilling. And I say that with a marked absence of hyperbole. Just a tough, tough ending…
Of course it’s a great set-up to the final four. Damn another week of reruns.
Easily one of the most stunning episodes I’ve seen in it’s run.
I did like how easily Buffy and Faith seemed to compliment each other…given their history.
Is this going to be one of the many reruns to come before the finale?
Not only did I get stuck in a meeting until 9:30 tonight, I come home to find out that shitass baseball pre-empted the show. I’m really unhappy right now.

I am still in shock and incredibly saddened by the event that occured during the final moment of tonights episode. That was the most painful scream i have ever heard.
Holy shit. I’m very glad I remained spoiler free. I was not expecting that brutal ending. Bring on the…reruns?

I’m going to wait until anyone else starts tossing out specific details about the ep before I say anymore, but judging by tonight’s ending, the series finale is going to depress me to all hell and back.
Time to buy some liquor in advance.
After watching this episode, I sincerely wonder if there’s going to be happy ending to Buffy. A few notes:

My jaw dropped when Caleb punched Buffy across the room…

…but nothing could prepare me for what happened to Xander. I literally screamed “NO!!!” at the television. Most painful Buffy moment I’ve ever seen.
So in retrospect, I think Buffy’s arrogance got the better of her. Yes, I think Giles made a mistake last episode by stalling her, but Buffy came up with a shit strategy tonight and it cost the lives of two potentials, got three potentials wounded, and then there’s what happened to Xander.
Only four episodes left…

I love how they’re just cutting loose now that they know that they’ve got only 5 episodes left. Sex, extreme violence (for TV), and a man of God as a monstrous killer. Well, they cheated a bit by saying he had turned away from God, but there’s a definate “religion bad” overtone to both Buffy and Angel right now…
Also, I enjoyed pretending that Fillion and Gellar were battling it out for Joss’ affections.
Xander with an eye-patch is going to be funny! I look forward to the pirate jokes myself…

I don’t think things are going to be that bleak. I’m sure she’s not going to die again. I’m sure there’ll be pain and loss and someone will probably die, but there’ll also be something resembling a happy ending. The show has had “happy endings” just as much as it’s had bleak ones.
I gotta be honest…there’s only one major character I can believe would die. Not saying who…
And it’s not like Xander’s DEAD for crying out loud…I mean, if Jesse Custer can deal, Xander can too. Hopefully the next episode will make up for the lack of Anya with her horrified reaction.
Yeah where was Anya tonight? How did they explain that?
Finally, this show has kicked in. I’ve pretty much disliked this season…Buffy’s been annoying, and the First is the weakest main villain ever. I know people hated Glory, but at least she wasn’t personality-free air. The preacher was awesome, and finally brought some real menace to this season. Didn’t figure him for superpowers. I can’t believe they did that to Xander.
I really have gotten to dislike Buffy as a character. She’s consistently stupid and selfish. Comparing her to Angel is like night and day now. Angel does what’s right, Buffy always lets her own selfish reasons take charge. Might make her an interesting flawed character, but she grates.
Which two potentials went down? It’s hard to keep track of them…the English one bit it, didn’t she?
Wow, I just completely disagree with you, Pirhana. This season has been pretty consistantly strong (with a slightly mushy middle, OK), the First is great, and Buffy is…well, she acted a little dumbly this episode, but let’s face it, she knew they were going to have to go into battle eventually. You can keep holding back so they’re not ready when the big, final crush comes, or you can face reality and do what has to be done. One of the realities of war, I guess.

Notice that again that they try to play off the preview for next week as if it is a new episode. It is really getting annoying how they are doing that on every show.
I rather liked the episode. Even if it didn’t get much done. The maiming of Xander really is shockingly brutal. I was impressed.
I’d have to agree about this season though. The First has been weak and inactive, Buffy has been annoying. Not a lot has made sense. Considering Caleb detonated the Watchers, the Summers house makes an easier target than some skirmish in a wine cellar.
I’m kind of in the piranhapictures camp, though more “meh,” then actively disliking the season.

Well, I guess I haven’t actually DISLIKED this season…it’s still Buffy and well written. But I think the better episodes have been the stand alones…usually I can’t wait for the big finale, but here I haven’t really cared because all the First does is…well, sort of nothing. So I’ve found it all pretty underwhelming. Like Cardboard Samurai says, “meh.”
But with the introduction of this preacher character, I’m excited again. He’s done more excitement-wise than the First has this whole season. What a character. And unlike the First, what a real menace.
