Alias

The ending was a little disappointing, as they turned Hauer into a wussy, repetitious bad guy who I was all too ready to see get blown away

…by a single agent who mysteriously found him in an unmarked room in the middle of an armed assault JUST in time…

ANYWAY…rest of the episode was good. Thing is, tho, it seemed awfully self-contained. To the point where I don’t see where they go from here. They beat the bad guys once and for all. There’s a super bad guy pulling all the strings, but so what? Either they discover him and stop him or they don’t. He’s not going to kill the heroes, so there’s no threat. No reason you MUST turn in next week.

Hey Mikah, I see where you’re coming from, but there is a whole story line they left out: Rambaldi.

Basically he was an inventor centuries ahead of his time, who may have created something which Syd’s mom is going to use to destroy the world. So that is how the stroy will progress I assume.

You might want to check some sites and get the background on the rest of the story if you are going to stick with it.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that.

Actually, I think Hauer will be back…and Sydney knew exactly where they’d have her father as she has been down in the interrogation room herself.

The show lost me for a couple of months there. I thought some of the stuff with Syd’s mom got repetitious, but this one was amazing.

Probably best I wait for some marathon or something before I watch it again then…

It’s a good show but I didn’t think it was anything to go nuts over. I don’t find Garner as ugly as I once did, but she still doesn’t do anything for me.

What a great episode. They totally blew the lid off the show. I was afraid it would get too repititious, and it was starting to get there, but now things have changed and I think it will be interesting to see where it goes.

I didn’t have a problem with Sydney finding the room in the middle of the shootout, because that was the general torture room and I guess she figured that’s where her dad was being interrogated. It’s been used several times before on other people.

And that last shot of Francie…damn!

Yeah, it would help in order to get an overall feel for the show. But to elaborate on the Rambaldi bit briefly, he left a slew of artifacts behind, devices and concepts centuries ahead of their time, and even one baffling prophecy. Almost every organization in the world climbs over themselves to get ahold of one of his unearthed babies.

The first season pretty much crawled with the Rambaldi storyline - it’s been more scarce this year - but it’s always a constant theme that should keep storylines running for a long time. Hopefully you’ll get a chance to catch up with that before long, because it’s excellent drama with first-rate characters.

Glad you liked it!

So I’m the only one here who doesn’t think lamely dropping plotlines in a sad attempt to garner (ouch) ratings equals good storytelling?

Thought it was pretty good, and the plane sequence delivered, so that was refreshing. The double agent, will they/won’t they discover her theme was getting really repetitive - and I don’t even watch every week. Glad to see that they have ditched it and moved on.

Yea I thought it was perfect to drop the storylines they did actually (in fact it was tying up storylines not dropping really)

I’m shallow…I know…

I’m sure the Rambaldi plotline will come back soon. I rather like the more personal storylines though.

Still have to see Season One completely though - only watched a few episodes a while back so I really had to fill myself in on plot synopsis from various websites. DVD coming soon, perchance?

What storylines did they drop? I’ve watched just about every episode, and I’m not seeing it. I bet Sloan has all of the Rimbaldi artifacts now.

The Alliance’s destruction is long overdue, it might’ve been better if it was spread out over a couple of episodes instead of just one, but I think Abrams did an excellent job wrapping up some of the major plots. Sydney and Jack’s double agent identity has been under heavy fire recently, and it would be pretty preposterous if they continue to use it, especially since now Sloane is gone and no one is going to cover for them at SD-6 any more.

Very Spoilery Speculation to follow:

Sloan does not have half the Rimbaldi artifacts, as they were locked away in Alliance vaults CIA now has them. Personally I don’t the Rimbaldi thread has vanished I think it is whats driving everthing now. Sloane biggest dream in life is to become a partner in the Alliance. When it comes albeit at the price of his wife he turns Machiavelli, plots the demise of the Alliance with only his newest recuit at his side, someone who’s loyalties he has not fully ascertained yet.

This is not the plot twist we were waiting for.

Sloane has been duped by Sark, which is why Sark is at his side and not his closest friend and confidant of the last couple of decades Jack Bristow. And Sark? He is still being controlled by Derevko. Now of three known factions vying for world power/Rimbaldi artifacts you have a complacent CIA and a new unknown faction governed by a puppet (Sloane). Derevko has proven herself to the CIA and now they have all of the Alliance’s artifacts in a position where she can take/document/catalog them in the interest of National Security (her being the only one that can figure them out). Remember back when O’Quinn first appeared? Someone of Sydney’s DNA (and genetic defects) will take the artifacts and try to give the world an enema. Derevko never gave up whatever artifacts she got, only herself.

All this started occurring to me during the raid, Sark sharing his overheard info (from a man who pays attention to detail) and solidifying with the death of Francie from her plastic surgery look-alike, how much info could they get from Sydney’s roommate? Although it would be a great control on her. One last thing Will’s probably going to die, doppelFrancie probably hasn’t been brought up to date on the new love angle or won’t taste the same. I’ll be lookin’ for an “accident” soon. Of course I could just be sufferring from extreme caffeine withdrawal

that was pretty great (even if we had to suffer through that endless postgame show for it). quite a blowout. and finally after 1 1/2 seasons, Francie becomes useful.

Garner looked unbelievable. a cheap way to draw viewers, but i can handle it.

Micah, glad you saw something there you somewhat enjoyed.

kinda wished they kept Geiger around a bit. still, gonna be interesting to see where things go from here, especially where people like Marshall and Dixon end up.

and yeah, there’s still a lot of strings hanging out there. Rambaldi, Derevko, K Directorate and the other intel agencies, and whatever Sloan has going on. it’s gonna be both weird and interesting now that they’ve completely altered the dynamic of the show…

…but doesn’t anyone (who has watched the show up to this point) think they wrapped up the plot lines TOO quickly? It’s like they just hit reboot on the series. Maybe that’s good…and maybe not. It just seemed too convenient. I understand trying to draw in new viewers and peak interest (which, btw, ABC totally screwed up with the 11:00 pm airing), but it just seemed like they were writing themselves out of the corner and taking the quick and easy way out with the characters. It’s like if Sloan was already dead, it was the series finale. Sydney spent all that time hiding the secret from Dixon about SD-6 and then bam…spills her guts in a 3 min. scene. Plus, the big “kiss” at the end…45 mins. earlier Vaughn had said they weren’t going to do that. The Francie twist is interesting…but why in the world have Will and Francie hook up? They’ve never even shown that interest before…and then bam! I realize the ep. was named “phase one”…is this the ending of the show in one direction and the beginning of another? I trust the writers and Abrams but…it just didn’t ring true for me (or my wife) to the characters. Rant over. Thanks, guys.

I more than somewhat enjoyed it. It was well-done except for the too tidy ending.

But as BlackVW said…it seemed like a series finale. They didn’t really give new viewers any indication of what else there is to be done on the show. No Lena Olin. Ron Rifkin/Sloane’s bit made no sense if you didn’t already watch the show. No mention of this Rambaldi thing or any other rival agencies.

I really enjoyed it including - for the first time, Garner’s notness - but I had a “Now what?” feeling after it was over.

i thought the episode did a reasonable job of straddling between wrapping up some plot lines and being accessible to new viewers.

i think Syd spilled to Dixon because it was the first time dad’s life was genuinely on the line.

and i think the Vaughn hook-up was because they were finally free from her having to worry about blowing her cover inside SD-6, since the place was destroyed.

so it just dawned on me now… if Sloane has a doppelFrancie infiltrating Syd’s circle, i guess he definitely knows now beyond suspicion that she (and dad) was a double agent, huh?

Absolutely, Mikah. You got it. If you knew about Sloan from the last ep. or from the beginning, that made sense…but it def. left a “now what?” feeling. maybe that was the point. I honestly think at the writer’s meeting they decided just to tie up everything and turn left instead of plodding ahead (and not that that was a bad thing). Plus…at what point did Sloan know they were double agents? about the time he was plotting to “out” the alliance and pull the switch-a-roo with Emily?

i agree. i was kinda surprised that there was no “previously on Alias” wrap-up, but in retrospect that could probably only serve to confuse new viewers even more by trying to condense 30 complex episodes into a 2-minute intro. you’re right though, they should’ve stressed Sloane’s role a little more.

and generally, each episode ends with that “Now what?”, but usually in such a way that you wanna come back next week to find out wink
