The latest issue of EW has their list of the 25 best “Simpsons” episodes ever. They also had their pick for the worst episode, which was “Bart to the Future,” the one where a grown up Bart mooches off of recently elected President Lisa. I love that episode, especially all of the parts in the Indian casino.
My pick for worst episode would be the one from last year where Bart started to hang out with Wolfcastle’s daughter. It maybe yielded a chuckle but that’s about all.
That future episode was funny.
Some more recent ones, however, are not.
The “Moe goes back to college” ep is on right now… not great. There are a few good jokes in the trendy version of Moe’s Tavern ("M"
, but it’s pretty weak overall.
It does have REM, though.
That Bart to the Future ep did suck.

TOMACCO anyone?
It was shockingly bad. I stopped watching the series briefly after that.
I suppose I should have known that this thread would turn into “Let’s bash every single episode made over the last 5 years.” All I know is that season 12 gave us the following classics:
The Computer Wore Menace Shoes: Homer creates his own web site and ends up captive on the same island as “The Prisoner.”
HOMR: (The “R” is supposed to be backwards): Homer becomes smarter after a crayon is dislodged from his brain.
Simpson Safari: The Simpsons go to Africa.
Trilogy of Error: A “Run Lola Run” parody, memorable for Chief Wiggum’s use of a “Hootie and the Blowfish” tape (instead of a blank) during a sting on Fat Tony.
Worst Episode Ever: Bart and Milhouse take over the comic book store from an ailing Comic Book Guy. They also discover Comic Book Guy’s secret stash of bootlegged videos, including his copy of “Godfather 3: Good Version.”
These are all classics and ones that I will watch right away if I see them in reruns. I also look forward to these episodes being available on DVD around the year 2012. I’ll admit that I did have to look up the titles to the episodes I just mentioned. I’m a big fan and all but I’m not (yet) psychotic.

The all-singing one is the absolute worst, hands down. The one where Bleeding Gums Murphy dies is really lame. Most of the other ones I can still find something in them to enjoy.
There seems to be a period of time every three or four seasons when the writers get bored and the show gets weird. The only solid episode I can remember doing this was the one where Homer and Marge start “doing it” in public places. I remember not laughing once, but staring open mouthed at just how bizarre that ep was. I know there are more like this, I just can’t come up with them straight away…

Oh man, the clip shows get progressively worse. The latest one (Homer’s friar’s club roast) even more horrible than that one.
Forgot about Tomacco. Ugh.

Sad but true.
Worst episode ever? The “real” Seymore Skinner shows up and exposes Principle Skinner as a fraud. As boring as they ever got. Only funny line - Homer’s Brain: “Keep looking shocked and move slowly towards the cake.”
The most recent worst episode comes to mind is the one where Marge gets breast implants. However, this Sunday’s where Marge buffs up might actually take that title.
Don’t diss on the Tomacco episode. The dueling glove and then there’s the most random moment where Lenny mails the plutonium and comes across Carl.
Carl: Mailing something?
Lenny: You know it!
Carl: Yeah, I’m thinking about mailing something tomorrow.
Lenny: I hear that!

As for episodes that stand out for being bad, I got to mark down the one where Bleeding Gums dies, the one whis Kids vs. Parents, and the one where the Comic Book Guy sleeps with Skinner’s Mom.
How can anyone not like the one where Comic Book Guy falls for Skinner’s mom. That episode introduced us to “Biclops,” the comic book published by Lenscrafters. And how can we forget Bart and Milhouse watching the bootlegged tape of a Drunk Mr. Rogers.

The Comic Boy Guy and Mrs. Skinner ep wasn’t tremendous, but certainly had a bunch of funny moments.
While I don’t think the show is as bad these days as people say it is, the only shows I dislike besides a couple from the first season are ones from the past few years. And the one I just do not like at all is the one where Lisa has to deal with the new redheaded girl-bully at school. In addition to a lack of good jokes, the episode has such a dingy, ugly look to it in many scenes that it borders on making me nauseous. I just can’t bring myself to watch it when it comes on.

Fortunately, as bad as some episodes may be, they’re still usually better than 90% of what else is on TV. And I can watch Simpsons reruns forever. And it seems like I have.
