I imagine I’ll get many clicks thinking this was a How-To Guide for our Xenomorph readers.

Has anyone seen this series of “Dateline” specials? Apparently, they pose as children on online internet sites and lure pedophiles to homes, before springing a camera crew on them and a disapproving reporter who asks him if he realizes what he’s done is wrong.

I found this to be immensely disturbing. I saw one where a late-twenties-ish guy clutched a garbage bag with roses, wine and condoms, explaining how he wasn’t happy in his marriage, and that if she found out he was cheating, she’s send her three massive brothers to kick the shit out of him. Of course, no faces are blurred out.

What I don’t understand is, how is this different from a public stoning in a town square? How is this not one step removed from “The Running Man”? I’m posting this because I found out my mother watches these shows, and I worry about the bloodlust this crap inspires among those who love seeing criminals get exposed on TV for seemingly no gains.

It’s not disturbing at all.

What is disturbing are the reports that show just how easy it is for your children to be lured off.

My sister station did one of these. They hid a camera guy and had one of the unrecognizable BTS guys go to a park and just try to lure kids to his car. Every single kid went with him. Of course once it was obvious the kid was going to go the guy walked them to their parents, told them (the parents) who he was and what was going on. I couldn’t believe that 1) the parents weren’t keeping an eye on the children and 2) these kids didn’t know not to talk to strangers. THAT’S disturbing.

The show is pretty funny. The host always has to crack off a snappy one liner when he dramatically emerges from the DATELINE KITCHEN.

Also, there’s always one cop that dives and tackles the pedophile as he exits the house.

The whole thing comes off as pretty skeevy to me. What are they on, like the 20th installment of this? I think it’s great when news shows take the time to give tips to parents on how to protect their children online and things like that, but this whole thing seems to pretty much wallow in the details of the subject for entertainment. When the commercials have quotes like “the most dramatic confontations yet!” and they compile “best of” shows I have to wonder how earnest Dateline’s intentions are. The fact that it airs all through sweeps doesn’t really bode well for it either.

On topic, I agree with Jason that these guys get everything that’s coming to them and more, but the whole sensationalism aspect is starting to bother me. Maybe it’s because I know one guy who is incredibly addicted to this show and he’s an absolute deusche.

I really do find this kind of shit disturbing.

Isn’t the whole fucking point of parental responsibility that the parent be responsible? Not Dateline?

What kind of sycophantic shit are we getting into? We’ve got this giant child hypocrisy schtick going on.

We dress up 12-year-olds in the sluttiest fashion we can legally get away with, let them parade around like that in public, and then get pissed and want to castrate any guy who takes notice? That’s fucked up.

That’s pretty damn funny.

Did anyone see the first episode of this? One of the people they caught was a rabbi! I haven’t seen most of the episodes that followed, but a follow up story really should’ve been done about that.

The one thing that surprises me is the fact of how far these guys are willing to travel. I mean, I hate driving 20-25 minutes across town for sex! Although, these guys have some serious issues, so I guess a long road trip is the least of their problems…

You’re absolutely right. I don’t have children myself, but some close friends of mine have recently begun to start families of their own. I know what I would do if someone ever tried to hurt one of their kids, let alone what I would do if it were my own. It’s really people like this that scare the shit out of me. It’s not like when you go into the wrong part of town, and you can tell who the wrong element is. These people are doctors, lawyers, mechanics, firefighters, and worst of all - fathers.

My favorite is the guy who got naked in the garage and sat in the kitchen wrapped in a small towel while he got berated by the Dateline guy. He was released by the cops, I guess, because THE NEXT DAY he was trolling for more ass with the same screen name. They busted him at McDumpster’s the second time.

What’s the new content in some of these shows? I always see these listed as new Dateline episodes, but I keep seeing the same clips of the same offenders over and over. So I tune in last night, new episode, and it seems I am seeing the same stuff shown during May sweeps.
