I watched the first season of this show and while it was hard to get hooked into, it turned out to be a great show that no one was watching. I think the main reason is because it airs in the summertime and many people are involved in other activities.
Anyway, I tuned in last summer for the second season and it rocked my pants off it was so fucking awesome. Some of the best storylines and character actors anywhere since The Sopranos. I never really got into NYPD Blue or The Shield, as I usually don’t like cop dramas, but because this show focuses on both the police and the criminals of Baltimore in full detail, I was drawn in.
Well, I just got an email newsletter about the upcoming season of this show, which I am guessing will premiere in the 10pm slot after the new season Six Feet Under and there’s a great bit of news for fans of the series.
Earlier this month, The Wire was one of three HBO series to receive the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award. Here’s what they had to say about the show:

I highly recommend this show and while the first season is not yet out on DVD, I have a feeling it may be released this summer in conjunction with the premiere of the third season and I encourage those of you who haven’t experienced The Wire to give it a look.
Finally someone else who digs this show. I love the hell out of it. This and Carnival were the best of last year. Probably this year too, however you must add Deadwood this year. Soprano’s is a friggin soap now, i still watch but damn its dissapointing. The Wire is basically one of those amazing shows that nobody takes the time to watch.
Didn’t one of the creators/actors pass away recently? Someone refresh my memory or slap me if I am wrong. Personally, I have to say this is the best cop show on the air. I dig the Law and Orders, but this one is easily the best.
Plus, its always good to see the sleazy side of Baltimore. Homicide and this make Baltimore seem like a badass city. Wish I could see someone capture my hometown as well (New Orleans).
HBO will be re-airing Season 2 in its entirety beginning this Sunday at 8pm. Hopefully, this means that Season 3 will begin airing just as Season 2 wraps up around mid-September.
I highly encourage you to check this show out, as it got WAAAY better during this last season and here’s your opportunity to catch it since the DVD boxsets haven’t come out.
I was watching an episode of NYPD Blue the other day, and it was written by David Simon.
The episode was about a roughneck CI who made his living robbing drug suppliers(a la Omar). Also, the episode had a guest task force that was funded by the FBI that supervised wire taps and everything.
Seems like this episode was a prototype for Simon’s The Wire. Just a bit of useless trivia
Sweet…HBO On Demand will start reairing episodes starting with the first season sometime in July. Hopefully I can catch up before season 3 airs. does anyone know where you can download the first season? the second season has been replaying so i’ve been taping it holding out hope i can find season 1 before i start watching the second season.
I wish I had HBO when this show started since I’m a sucker for good cop shows (Shield). With it also happening about 30 minutes from where I live is pretty cool too. Now I need to squeeze the box sets somewhere on my must buy list.
I really don’t want to go into the third season blind and I have only seen the first episode of the first season. I have the entire second season tivoed and was wondering how I can catch season 1 before season 3? What is HBO On Demand? I have DirectTV and can’t seem to find it. If I can’t catch season 1 in time, should I just start out at season 2? Is there a lot of continuation I would miss?
I remember the first episode of The Wire I watched was about…maybe the fourth episode of the first season. Didn’t have ONE clue as to what was going on. Luckily, I caught one of those three episode “catch-up” marathons. Viewership of The Wire is oh SO rewarding. Totally uncompromising.

I was actually hoping it would air later. I just recently got a chance to check the show out on HBO OnDemand, but they won’t be done airing Season 1 until late August/early September.
