Just read about the movie. BLAAAA. Thats all I have to say. That show stopped being good ten years ago and has degenerated into limping merchandise aborted poop stain. Whatever, I just hoped they would try and sort of save face but I guess thats showbiznuts. Seriously, though, why is the Simpsons still airing new episodes. Who watches that crap. My mom and dad do but thats cause they have nothing better to do. Not to harp but that news kinda bummed me out. Whats your take?

I don’t think the show has been bad for that long, I’d say it’s been bad for 5 or 6 years. I rather see them make bad simpsons movies that I don’t have to watch then Bad simpsons episodes that take up a time slot better used for better shows. So I hope they make movies and cancel the show. But it will suck if make movies and continue the show, ala X-files.
“The Simpsons” is kind of like an old mob boss. Its younger captains, in this case “South Park” and “Family Guy,” are running the show but you should still visit “The Simpsons” here and there out of respect before it dies with an orange peel in its mouth in the garden.

I am sure the movie will still break 100 mill only because idiots like myself, who have some fledgling of hope of it being good will go see it even though we stopped watching the show years ago.

I hope its good. The most important part for me is that is has some genuine emotion. Like the first three or four seasons epsiodes had. Those were my favorites.
I would let the old man die in peace if this is the case. Its just painful to watch something I used to like so much suck so bad. I agree about the emotion but I don’t think it get it back cause those emotions were created by specific writers who have moved on to greener pastures.
i think i coud still semi-enjoy the simpsons if i’d just remember to watch it on sundays… maybe it’s my subconcious telling me otherwise 
I prefer the idea that was being thrown around a couple of years back - make a series of 3-5 minute Simpsons shorts, show one each week/month in theatres before Fox movies, then release them all on DVD at the end of the year.
The past several years, at best the show has managed one or two decent gags per episodes, and can’t seem to keep a storyline running for more than a few minutes before veering into awful mess territory anyway, so it makes more sense than expecting the current writers to manage to put together a funny, coherant feature-length film.
If they could get Conan O’Brien or someone back to write it, that’d be another story, but I’d much, much rather see a Futurama movie hit the big screen - a show which lends itself better to a feature-length runtime and is/was still in its prime. Which is highly unlikely, but I’m still hoping and praying that the DTV project works out.
The Simpsons is nowhere near as good as it used to be, but it’s still watchable, which makes it one of the best shows currently on television.
I grew up on the show, so it has a very special place in my heart, but that said I stopped actively watching the show in about 2001 (I guess that’s season 9 or 10). Recently I invested in the DVD’s and had a lot of fun watching them and decided to tune into the show, and what I notice is not only are the jokes not really funny (though I had an occasional laugh, the humor has really degenerated) but also the new digital colored animation lacks depth and the voices sound really odd in that they are flat and lacking character (I guess it shows how much the voice actors are putting in these days).
All said and done, I’d still go see the movie, mainly because I remember reading like a year ago, Al (or was it Mat?) was saying they were trying to get all the great Simpson’s writers of the past on board, and explicitly mentioned Conan. I guess the only issue is weather Conan and others are willing and/or able to take part.
Just caught the Homer Clone episode yesterday.
The Family Guy interspersed with the swarm of Homer clones was pretty inspired.
Simpsons may not be as good as it once was, but it’s still better than most of everything else on the tube.
Yes, that was a great Treehouse episode. The shotgun gag in that always makes me laugh.
if they’re dead set on doing a Simpsons movie, then they might as well make it an experimental live action with Kevin James as Homer.
No matter how bad it is now, it’s still funnier than Family Guy.
They were neck and neck until Stewie did the dead on parody of Shatner singing “Rocket Man.” That’s when the torch was passed for me.
I would never want a live action “Simpsons” movie but my God Dan Hedaya would make a great Moe the Bartender.

Cumulatively for the last 16 years, maybe.
Many things are funnier than Family Guy.
So are the writers for the movie people who have worked on the show in the last 5 years? Because if they are, it doesn’t help this movie at all. They need to go back to Simpsons writers from seasons 4-9. That would be a smart move.
