As “Knocked Up” and “Superbad” proved, the problem with this show these days isn’t the talent, it’s the writing. Still, Hader, Wiig, and Poehler are funny enough that I’ll keep watching, at least for a little while.
LeBron James hosts tonight’s premiere, with Kanye West as the musical guest. Will the supernova of ego created by these two threaten to swallow 30 Rock whole? We shall see.
Next week is Seth Rogen.
If Seth Rogen writes all the sketches, then I might download the episode.
I can’t imagine Rogen stomaching doing SNL’s shitty sketches, being that he and his cohorts are writing some of the best R-rated humor out there. I hope, but doubt it will be any good. But you gotta get the word out about Pineapple Express!
I’d like to see Michael Cera host SNL at some point.

Manning United Way was one of the best things they did last year.
The whole Manning episode was one of the best things they did last year, I lost it when he was dancing to the silly little dance song. Something tells me tonight’s going to blow hard.
Ok, the Samberg song to the President of Iran got me laughing. Is that the dude from maroon 5?

What a great SNL short. The little kids coming in at the end is what sealed it.
The bastard in me would have loved to see James come down and crack his ankle in that scene with Sudekis. Just because.
Goddamn it, I don’t necessarily enjoy Kanye West, like, at all. But he is a fucking great live artist.

I think that’s the only time SNL is ever good anymore is when they do the meta shit. But that’s not hard to make impressive.
Missed some of the early stuff, maybe the frist 15-20 minutes.
AGD was good, the Kanye sketch was good and so was the reading for kids. The rest was garbage.
LeBron played Lebron in about 2/3 of his skits. And the few times he tried to act were just horrendous. However, I laughed when he came out in the Solid Gold outfit with the Gerri curls.
Kanye ruled. I was pissed that he sang four songs and not one of them was “Can’t Tell Me Nuthin’”! The freestyle during “Everything I’m Not” was awesome though.
Wiig is great. Penelepe is not. I hate that skit with all my being. It should not be anywhere in the first hour, if it airs at all.
SNL Digital skit was hilarious. Loved the Gyllenhall cameo.
Thompson needs to be fired. If he’s not playing Bill Cosby, he’s pretty much playing himself. I can’t believe they called what he did an OJ impression.
Weak first episode. I hope Seth Rogan can knock his ep out of the park. If they let him and Hader write the sketches it should be comedic gold.
For those who missed it: Samberg’s “Iran So Far Away”
I enjoyed the “Angry Dog” dogfood commercial. If only for the end shot of the Golden Retriever looking like a fucking demon. And the poodles. I need to stop drinking so much when I watch this. And maybe just not watch at all. Although we shall see about next week’s episode. If it’s not funny then it’s time to fire the writers.
Ok, Rogan was pretty great.

I thought the show sucked as usual. Rogan did nothing special like he could have.
Rogan was not great. He was barely in any skits and the few he was in were horrible. I can’t say there was one skit I enjoyed last night*. Horrible. Chevy was fine. His bit wasn’t any better or worse than the rest of the show.
Kristin Wiig… (sigh). I have a love-hate relationship with her. She’s either really great or really terrible. I wish she would stop playing the most annoying characters alive. We get it. You can play annoying. How about something new, pretty please?!
*Edit: Except the muppets bit. It went on too long as most SNL sketches do, but the costumes were just awesome. Hader as Animal was aces.
