Lou’s complete destruction of Tommy was great.
Really great episode, in no small part because I’m over Tommy as a character. I still watch to see Sean and Mike do their battle of the half-wits thing, and to see Andrea Roth occasionally drop some hot bitchy milfiness on us, but mostly for Lou. Scurti has officially stolen the show in my book, and his slapping Tommy down was awesome. Before this season, you really might’ve forgotten that Lou and Franco and Garrity were right there for all of it too, or that 9/11 happened to anyone but Tommy.
I hope we see more of Jimmy this season.
It looks like Michael J. Fox plays a large role in next weeks episode.
Yeah, Between the opening scene and the last meltdown, Lou was on fire.
Bet Jimmy committed suicide.
What gives you that impression? Seems to me they’re setting it up that he got out of the first tower and went into the second one, and that’s where he died. So now they have to deal with losing him coupled with the knowledge that he was that close to being okay.
I see where you’re coming from Dickson but for some reason I think Tati is onto something. What’s the big deal about him going back in? At least for Tommy. Is Tommy going to beat himself up over Jimmy making the decision to go back in this late in the game? I guess he might but Rescue Me has the tendency to go big and Jimmy not dying a hero but as a coward by choosing to die when he was already out would be a ton of weight on Tommy.
I could be totally wrong though, I could see it going either way.
I don’t remember if they ever found Jimmy’s body or not, but it seems odd he’d kill himself that very day. And if he lived beyond 9/11, did he hide from everybody and then kill himself?
I could more easily see him running away from the buildings and somehow dying as he flees, so he was chickening out when he died.

No way will they say Jimmy killed himself. They already had Jerry off himself. Doubt they’ll play that card again.
Still not really bowled over by these episodes. Seems like all the 9/11 angst is recycled from the first season.
The stuff with Tommy’s sponsor is dead tired. He’s needy. I get it.
Sheila’s scenes are useless.
I agree about Tommy’s sponsee. Other than that, they’re doing new and interesting stuff with 9/11 and Shiela (long overdue, btw).

I don’t see much in the way of new or interesting with Sheila. For five seasons her character has revolved 100% around her obsessive love/hate relationship with Tommy. They really should either drop her completely or find someone new for her to pine for. Have her get it on with Mickey. Give him more to do than the same on the wagon/off the wagon AA tripe that’s always thrown his way.

Did you see the last episode? Sheila’s entire storyline was it spelled out to her that her character revolves 100% around obsession with Tommy, and taking steps toward extricating herself from him. And I do like Mick, even if he is myopically tied to the AA stuff that hasn’t progressed a lick since its inception in the 2nd season. Since we lost Johnny and to a lesser extent Tommy’s dad, he’s about the only person who doesn’t buy into the hero-worship/sex mania that infects all the supporting characters when they interact with him. Giving him a real storyline would be great, but I have a feeling we’re more likely to get more zaaaaniness from Uncle Teddy.

I saw it. I just don’t think any symbolic gestures she performs to remove Tommy from her life are gonna mean much in the long run. If they manage to actually find something of use for her to do that doesn’t involve Tommy then I’ll recant, but I doubt they’ll spend the time to do that. Much easier to just have Sean say something stupid, or perhaps have Mike say something stupid. Or have both of them say something stupid in the same scene while Tommy shakes his head at their stupidity.

Molti, do you write for this show? I think you nailed down next season’s whole arc.
But on the bright side we’ve barely had any Tatum O’Neal this season. If I’m gonna gripe about what I don’t like it’s only fair that I get down on my knees and suck dry whoever finally realized her crap factor.
Does it have a formula? Yeah, pretty much any show that’s been on 5+ years does. But complaining about Sheila right when they’re addressing the stuff you bring up just seems weird. Not saying the show is above reproach, but I’m surprised in that I never took you for a whiner. You were always the quintessential take-whatever-good-can-be-squeezed-from-any-given-lump-of-crap guy.

I agree on the 9/11 thing. It seemed that was it’s 1st season hook. Now it’s been 3 years and everyone thought it sucked and they are going back to it. IT seems like whenever the show wants to look relevant, they go to the 9/11 route…

It’s true that there’s a formula for pretty much all long running shows, I suppose the formula gets a little more stale for me on Rescue Me because it’s hard to introduce much conflict in this setting. It’s not like The Sopranos where you can just throw in some new gangsters to stir shit up. They’re firefighters so the only conflict the show can work with is either fighting fires or in terms of the personal relationships that the core characters contend with. Right now neither of those aspects is giving me anything new to chew on.
It’s frustrating because one of the more interesting angles introduced this season, Franco and Mike’s differing views of 9/11, got wrapped up in a nice tidy bow in about an hour. Why? Finally they give Mike a viewpoint that doesn’t revolve around his low I.Q. and Franco an opinion that doesn’t revolve around his love of pussy. But that gets put on the back burner for some reason so that those characters can get back to their familiar comfort zones.
I’m glad to hear that Fox will get more airtime in the coming weeks. His few scenes have been the best part of this season.

I’d like to do new and interesting stuff with Callie Thorne, but Sheila just irritates me now. It’s sad how much I was hoping her character would die in that fire a couple of seasons back.
Agree 100% about Sheila. It was nice to see Jimmy back, though.
Poor Garrity’s got a tumor, though, I bet, punching against his spinal cord.
