Will there be anything entertaining/of interest before W’s speach on the last day? The DNC was pretty uneventful til Kerry came on.
From these speeches, you’d think that 9/11 was the best thing to ever happen to the Republican Party.
So far, it’s been just as mindless and annoying as the D.N.C. I can’t watch it for more than two minutes without feeling like the last sane man on this planet.

I just want to bash my head against a wall. The sheep-like, uncontrollable bleating of “Four more years! Four more years!” after McCain attacked a microphone-less Michael Moore pretty much sums up American politics (on both sides of the coin) in a nutshell. Take a shot at your opponent when they can’t respond, resort to partisan blather and mindless rhetoric when they can. What a sad, depressing country this is quickly becoming.

Bush Sr likes to jump out of airplanes.
Will there be anything good to watch? Arrrrrrnold is gonna speak. That should be good for a few laughs. He does well enough watch them start to change the Constitution to let Naturalized Citizens run for President. Demolition Man will come true.

The only republicans whose speeches I can watch are (usually) John McCain, Arnold because he’s Ah-Nuld and Dubya to see if he says “strategery” again.

I thought John McCain gave a very good speech. My only criticism is his attack on Michael Moore. It was unnecessary and will probably just help Moore sell DVD’s of the film when it is released on home video. Other than that, his speech was solid. Please tell me why he’s not the Republican candidate instead of George Bush?
I didn’t care for Rudy Gulliani’s speech all that much. He had some interesting stories to tell like the one about the construction worker talking to Bush after 9/11, but he just couldn’t stop talking about Kerry. There will come a time when the Republican Party will have to start talking about their candidate or they will lose the interest of quite a few voters.
Where are the terrorists when you really need them?
Watching the RNC makes me lose hope for this country.
I just eagerly anticipate being around thirty years from now, when Bush and Co. are regarded with the same affection that Strom Thurmond and George Wallace are today, and his current supporters are tripping over themselves backpedaling away from being associated with him.
Seriously, should Kerry win, I give it less than a decade before every major authority and media source openly regards him as the worst president in modern history.
Should Bush win, I have strong doubts this country will even be recognizable in a decade. Either his foreign policy will get us all killed, his authoritarian leanings will have virtual martial law declared in half our major cities, his economic policies will have 90% of the country in virtual poverty or employed by foreign corporations, or the backlash to any or all of the above will turn the country inside out.
More to the point, McCain’s speech mostly just made me sad. Despite his conservative leanings, he seems at least a decent man, and I couldn’t help but picture a genuinely misguided leader who doesn’t realize that he’s quoting inaccurate statistics and disproven ideas to a convention full of snakes. They kept cutting from McCain to Cheney, which only made me hate Cheney more than ever before, because he, of all people, has to know just how badly misled McCain is.
The Moore comment, however, was pretty disgusting.

Is Bush likely to win the general election?
It seems to be worryingly close. I get the feeling that most people on this site have Democratic leanings, but try to be objective - what are the chances that you’ll vote this illiterate monkey out of office?
I like America, don’t get me wrong. I like, on the whole, Americans. They are kind, generous and not unlike us Brits - same gene pool after all. The main difference - that is quite a profound and important difference - is that the majority of Americans are politically ignorant. I spent 3 months in Chicago at the time of 9/11. The news coverage was horrifically patriotic, towing the government line when it was American foreign policy that had brought this upon you guys. As a european, the attacks were not a shock to me in the slightest - indeed I was more shocked at how shocked everyone else was. 9/11 was a simple matter of when and where - it was gonna happen, the only people who couldn’t see it coming were the American’s themselves. This is through no real fault of your own however, it’s hard to be informed when ‘news’ channels such as Fox are so clearly domestic orientated and partisan to the government. Also your printed press is very state-focused, with hardly any access to foreign newspapers. But I digress - just tell me America will do the right thing and take this fool out.
As of right now things are not looking particularly good for Bush. The race is still close, but most analysts believe Kerry has the upper hand.
As a Florida resident (a key swing state for the election) I can say I have seen a rapid proliferation of Pro-Kerry sentiments in the past month or so when previously two or three months ago there was almost none. The chief demographic that both parties are hoping to win over (central Florida Hispanics who possess no strong political allegiance) seem to be siding primarily against President Bush. The rapid reponse of aid after Hurricane Charley has not helped people’s esteem of the President since rapid aid response is EXPECTED and is not considered a gift from the president.
At this point the race is still too close to call but I believe Kerry has a slim advantage. Moderates and undecideds are starting to decide who they are going to vote for and it seems many are choosing Kerry.
