I regularly watch Inside the Actor’s Studio and kept seeing the ads for this new show. Bravo seems to be the go-to network for any homosexual programming of late, with this and the new show Boy Meets Boy. I finally decided to check QE out, after my mom and sis watched an episode and recommended it.
It’s a funny show! Five gay men come into the apartment or home of some hopeless guy and make him over with new clothes, hairstyle, furnishings, etc.
One episode dealt with a messy guy who wanted his girlfriend to move in and another one I saw dealt with an urban cowboy who wanted to ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage.
I recommend you guys check it out! It’s a fun hour of TV and one of the only reality shows with a good ending. Plus, I wish someone with a large expense account and good taste would come spend some money on this straight guy.
New episodes air on Tuesdays at 10pm and repeat throughout the week.
I’ve yet to watch an entire episode from beginning to end, but I like what I’ve seen so far. I didn’t expect the guys who were giving the makeover to be so funny.
I love the constant stream of insults when they first enter the “Straight Guy’s” home and start throwing stuff out. That’s always the best part.
I saw two episodes last night: John, the unibrow guy who was proposing to his girlfriend, and Vinny, the back up singer who got to sing his first solo.
This show is hysterical. Carson, indeed, is the funniest of them all.
Couple question. Not sure if any of you have the answers. How are the straight guys picked? Do they audition? Do their wives/girlfriends submit their man’s info? What makes these slobs so special?
Also, how much money do the Fab 5 get to do the make overs? And who pays for it? I mean, they redo entire apartments & wardrobes, the men get fabulous spa packages, who pays for this stuff?

Little ads in newspapers and other local rags. The potentials send in video audition tapes, genreally.
Glad to see that most of you are enjoying it as much as I am. I didn’t know what kind of response I would get when I originally started the thread.

One Diva to rule them all: This show is hysterical. Carson, indeed, is the funniest of them all. Couple question. Not sure if any of you have the answers. How are the straight guys picked? Do they audition? Do their wives/girlfriends submit their man’s info? What makes these slobs so special?
Carson is indeed the funniest one of them all. I watched a recent episode with this Jewish schlub who was married to this beautiful woman with enchanting green-gray eyes. He was a computer entrepreneur of some sort, but had the messiest house. Their living room was covered in toys and he hadn’t acknowledged his wife’s birthday in 8 years (I think).
Carson had this laugh-out-loud moment in front of this really ugly 70s-ish wallpaper in the kitchen, when he said, “Look, it’s Where the Wild Things Are.” He posed just like Max (the little boy in the book) and the wallpaper looked just like the forest in the book.
Later on in the same episode, as they were driving back to the house, the schlub said he was going to say a toast to his wife that night and Carson interrupted and said, “And tell her that we’re gonna go off together to New Mexico and ride motorcycles in the desert” or something to that effect.
As for your questions, Diva, I would refer to the official website (see above). You may have some luck getting them answered there. And it looks to me that most of the episodes are filmed in the NYC area, as they end up going to all these fancy stores and spas.

Fairly Odd Kronos: Christopher Lowell has been around for a long, long time. And he shows things you can do on a budget. Plus he’s entertaining!
Ha! Ha! Lowell is hilarious to watch and make fun of, but I cannot make an everyday thing of it. He sounds like he’s about to explode from inhaling too much helium.

Sammy Jankis adorns Diva’s ass: I expect NBC to start showing all the episodes (I think they own Bravo).
Yep, NBC bought Bravo earlier this year. James Lipton introduced his new boss (Jeff Zucker) in an impromptu announcement in the middle of John Travolta’s 2-hour episode of Inside the Actor’s Studio. Plus, Bravo has been re-airing lots of NBC shows and specials and is about to start airing repeats of The West Wing.
I guess it’s a function of where I work and live, but I’ve got two different gay guys near me all the time who are great for advice such as that dispensed on this show! One of them knows how to dress and the other is great with graphics, and to a lesser extent decor, as he’s a graphic artist.
I have a coworker who insists the Fab 5 are just reinforcing the sterotypes. To some degree I say yes, but on the otherhand they are doing society, and by society I mean women, a great deed by turning slobs into fashionistas!
In the wedding proposal episode, they spent some time telling teh guy to get his nails done because no woman wants to see dirty ragged nails. I agree. There is very little that can save you if I see that you have disgusting nails. It shows a basic lack of hygeine, not to mention you won’t put those hands anywhere near me or my private parts. The only thing worse would be bad teeth.
Tonight’s episode was fucking hilarious. The guy was obviously uncomfortable being around gay guys, so the Fab Five were even more flambouyant than usual (who knew it was possible?)! The guy was a total slob, and will return to being one after the cameras turn off. I feel sorry for his girl. This guy has a lot to live up to.
Tonights episode was classic. I mean, you can’t get any better than a cop from Staten Island (NYers will understand).
How these slobs keep getting tremendously hot women is mindboggling. This guy’s girl is a swim suit model and he is a balding, fat slob. How is it possible?
Even though he tried to be this macho guy around the Fab 5, as soon as he was alone with his girl (and the cameras ) he was like a giant teddy bear, giggling and skipping through the house. It was kinda sweet.
If I had the Fab 5, maybe my last relationship would have worked out.

Funny, I thought just the opposite. Sure these guys are hamming it up, but they aren’t putting on any kind of act. I get the feeling that they are really like that. I know gay guys like that, so how can it be a stereotype?
If anything, this show is the most honest portrayal of gays I’ve seen on television. No faux angst or flamboyancey (sp?). I especially like some of the honest patter between them and the straight guys. One time the dude they were helping said something about how none of his other friends would be doing this (i think it was a back waxing). The queer guy says, “Really? Why? Is this too homo?”. The straight guy says “Yeah!” and that was it. Nobody was offended. Just an open dialogue.
This is the best show I’ve seen in a long time. I hope it doesn’t pull an “Osbournes” and oversaturate the market.
