I think we should have an official horror games thread that covers every horror game we know of and want to discuss. I know no one from here really visits the videogames forum and every single thread devoted to a horror game seems to get buried fast, so I thought why not put it all in one thread?
First off, I will kick the thread off with Forbidden Siren. I haven’t played much into it so far, but I am slightly underwhelemed. You have to do EVERYTHING, and I mean everything (find keys. Unlock car door. too dark to see lock so turn on torch. Unlock car door. Open car door. Go into car. Sit. Insert key. Turn key). The english dubbing is horrible and so far there is nothing to suggest this is set in Lovecraft’s world, as the site I brought it from suggested. Oh well hopefully it will pick up.
Originally posted by Inky BinkyI’ve been waiting for Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth for awhile now. It’s coming out for the X-Box and PC. Another interesting looking game is Zombies . The graphics isn’t all that great, but the gameplay still might be pretty good.
I too am waiting for this game. However, I am sure there is a version coming to PS2 as well?
Ghosthunter didn’t fare too well in UK despite it’s quality. When it’s released there, don’t let me down my american comrades. Get your ass to the store and buy, buy buy. Trust me on this.
Hell I don’t care, it’s Lovecraft baby Some of the demons seem to resmble Dagon though…I hope so much this makes it to stores.
About the Zombie game, don’t get your hopes up. This looks like a similarly promising game called Asylum. It looked like an amazing FPS which looked amazingly creepy and Silent Hill esque.
However the website was by the developers and it had no publisher and as far as I know is cancelled. Maybe it’s a case for Mr Dark, wherever he is right now? But yeah, so far it looks like it has no publisher. Maybe Dan knows…but I am not getting my hopes up, good as this looks. What about that Dead Next Door game?
Thats what I hope this thread becomes, like a sticky thread. I think it would benefit all us horror gamers. I kinda got tired of single threads on games being buried. So Johnny or Ryan, can we stick this?
If you notice on this and all other sections of the boards, there is only one moderator, and he’s never in here. He’s been promising us the access, but to no avail yet. Kinda annoying, actually.
3DO bought the bullet, and various properties were sold to different game companies - just not Four Horseman. Personally, I was a little wary about the game since 3DO never struck me as a quality game publisher but they had a few “hits” in the ballpark one in a while.

I’ll be playing, simply because I loved SCEE’s Primal. Not a whole lot of people loved Primal though because of the combat system, which has its problems but never really struck me as frustrating. Other than that, a fantastic story and sense of imagination. And the voice acting is perfect.

Not so sure about that one. I watched a video of it in action, and, well, it looked like it doesn’t deliver.

You can say that again. I worked with 3DO during my brief stay in the game design world. The company I worked with was doing a PC port of a 3DO game called ‘Killing Time’. The 3DO version was a real stinker, but we basically completely redesigned it from the ground up. KILLER game. Survival horror meets Duke Nukem (we used the Build engine, this was 1996) with the FIRST 3-D engine to support in-game AVI movies.
They killed it. Decided they didn’t want to do PC games and intentionally cut shipments to a couple thousand pieces, so they could go to stockholders and claim it was a failure (like their other PC ports were). They did that and never got back into game design, they just bought design companies like 7th Level and New World Computing.
So yeah, it doesn’t surprise me at all, and I’m still just a -little- bitter that Killing Time never got it’s day in the sun.
I read somewhere possibly on Amazon that stan winston deigned some of the creatures for the suffering. Its to bad about 4 horsemen that game had potential espically with lance henricson (sp?) providing the voice of the lead charcter.
Stan Winston did the creature designs for The Suffering. It feels more like Clive Barker to me than SW though. What a freaky game. Awesome atmosphere. The controls are a little off it being a 1st or 3rd person game depending on how you want to play it. I’m playing it in 1st person. The audio effects and dialogue are top notch. Definitely not to be seen or heard by young kids. Kick ass game so far. These guys know horror.
I agree, Trip, played it for most of my day off yesterday and have no real complaints. Now, of course, I’m stuck and don’t know where the hell to go yet (and my fellow inmate keeps fuckin’ dying on me), but I’m sticking with it. I especially like the fact that once you insanity meter is up, you start having bizarre flashes of family and death. Great stuff.
