Hey Chewers. I really wanted to get a thread going on the upcoming Battlestar Galactica show on Sci-Fi. I posted about it in the “Battlestar 2003” thread, only to stupidly realize that it was in the readers review section and nowhere near the general TV discussion. Doh! So anyways, for all the Television/Sci-Fi fans out there, I’m hearing a lot of good buzz, so I wanted to see who else is looking forward to this show, and if you’ve heard anything new lately.
The first episode is excellent and has a good concept going for it (33). The second episode is also good and after watching my Collateral dvd I’ll be checking out the third episode. Overall, the quality of the story is a lot better than the mini-series.
Its a fantastic series. It makes things like Enterprise pale in comparrison. I know the purists hate it beacuse its so radically different to the orginal but that is why it works. Its not trying to be the old Battlestar Galatica its taken the concept and run with it in a compleatly different direction.
Yeah I’m hearing really good reviews from everyone who’s seen it. I can’t wait until it starts in January. Have you guys been watching on Sky One? Or have you been downloading the episodes?

i’ve been downloading the episodes. you can find them on various BitTorrent sites.
i really liked the first couple episodes, but it slowed down a bit for me. the most recent one renewed my interest a bit, only because Baltar played a major role in the episodes. he’s one of the more interesting characters, as his motivations are not yet apparent.
A friend gave me the episodes (downloaded). I’ll check it out when it comes to SciFi though.
I need more cylons though!

That’s cool that you’re going to check it out on Sci-Fi also. I thought about downloading them, but I’d rather see the better quality version when it comes out instead of watching on my laptop. I hope not too many people are downloading, assuming I like it as much as everyone is suggesting I will, I want the show to get good ratings so they renew it for another season. Too many great shows end up in the trash heap because networks won’t stick with it if the first seasons ratings are bad.
As for the cylons, the clips they show of them in the trailers looks badass!

I looks like the Sci Fi channel is already eyeing a second season for the show.

That’s fantastic news. Well, I’m assuming it is (I haven’t seen the show yet) but people are making this out to be such a “can’t miss” success, so I assume I’ll enjoy the first season and be eager for a second season.

I know you can download episodes but I’d rather wait to see them on Sci Fi. I don’t want to fuck with the ratings plus my tiny computer screen won’t do the effects justice.
Having watched the 9 episodes that have aired so far on Sky One I have to say it’s fucking excellent.
I would have to agree with Keeks I have also seen the 9 episodes..soon to be 10..when I get home that have aired on Sky in UK so far and they are GREAT. Much more character building then the original BG, but that adds a little more drama to the series to hold you with it. Also, as for those who want more Cylons they start getting deep into them a little later…thats all i will say abou that.
great show. i won’t say much about the plot, but the dialogue was tight, not a wasted scene or word.
and what they are doing to Baltar. very nice.
Every time I see a commercial for the show I can’t help but think that Edward James Olmos looks like Max Weinberg.

This is my feelings on downloading exactly. I’ve heard such good things about the show that I want to support it by watching it air on Sci-Fi so they give it another season. Plus watching on my big TV is far better than my little laptop screen.
Sorry for the double post, but did anyone watch the Battlestar Galactica mini-series on NBC this weekend. I had forgotten how sweet the mini-series is, even with the edited version it was awesome to see BSG getting play on a major network. Anyone catch it? Anyone looking forward to Friday?
I have only seen a few minutes here and there of the pilot when it was on NBC and it did look pretty interesting.
Although Mary McDonnell looks like she is always on the verge of bursting into tears.
Hah, the bathroom scene in the latest episode was great!
I like Helo’s storyline. It kind of shows the other side of the typical “character everyone thought dead returns surprisingly” story.
So…I can catch the start of the series (not the mini, but the series) this Friday? Sounds like, from reading you guys, you are already watching it, but I read somewhere that episode one (which is getting great reviews) is going to be on on Friday.
Though Im in the Uk I can tell you the series starts Friday and that SCI FI is also showing the part 1 of the mini series tonight (parts 1 + 2 tommorow), its the best SCI FI on the telly this.
