Rich Sommer (Harry) has been posting updates as the show starts shooting its third season via twitter – @richsommer. (Currently, he got the first script and his 60s haircut. Exciting, I know, right?)

He also said that the official announcement regarding a return date will come very soon from AMC, but is planned for late summer.

This might be my favorite show ever (yes, ever), and I’m really excited for the third season. I’m curious to see whether Weiner picks up the show where he was thinking of picking up the show, and how the question of “Who is Don Draper?” is going to be explored this year. (First season it was very literal, the second more psychological/existential.)

I’m also hoping Colin Hanks comes back, even though he was a big jerk to Peggy in the last episode.

Also, Jon Hamm was the guest on Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show and they talked a lot about how the show got started/Hamm got cast, and Hamm’s thoughts on Draper. (Including the infamous crotch grab scene.) http://www.kevinpollakschatshow.com

What year is season 3 going to be set? '64 or '65?

I heard the majority of the season was going to be set in '64 to go with Weiner’s plan (although I’ve heard that the plan is now to extend it to '70 b/c of Weiner’s contract), but that they might start the season in Fall of '63 to cover Kennedy, especially since they gave it such a focus in Season 1.

I’d always heard it was to end at '70. But Weiner stated it wasn’t going to just hit major events. The influence but not necessarily the events themselves.

But I’ve got to think '68 or '69 will play a role.

Show started production today. AMC announced that it will premiere sometime in August. Kind of annoyed that means I have to wait longer for it.

Yeah but on the flip side, we get Jared Harris for 10 episodes as the CFO of Sterling Cooper. I love that dude.

Haha, I heard that he was cast and immediately figured that’s who he’d be.

Also, let’s try to invisotext spoilers. That’s not a big deal, but as we get closer to air/more episodes are filmed, stuff’s going to start to come out. There are already scene breakdowns for the first episode out there.

I feel kind of fanboyish, but I think I’ll be rewatching both seasons in hypexcitement for the premiere.

Me too. But that’s pretty obvious.

I got a friend who is very big on costuming/costume design hooked on the show recently, and she pointed out a detail that I’d never noticed before. Because Joan is so busty and on a secretary’s salary, she can’t afford dresses that are tailored in the first season. So the backs bunch up more than they should. I thought that was a great detail and showed just how much attention they pay on this show.

That could be easily solved by her walking around in her underwear all the time. Dammit I should have been a TV executive.

Well, you could always make a Greek knockoff of the show. That could work.

Also, did anyone catch the promo for season 3? It consisted of a lot of fighting. Wasn’t sure if that was footage from this new season or from season 2.

Damn, and I just changed my desktop, too. I’m not a guy to get excited over promo art, but both that and the last season (Draper in the crowd at Grand Central) have been fantastic images.

I ordered the second season today from Amazon. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but would anyone be interested in doing a recap/rewatch similar to the Lost thread? I was going to do it for my own benefit, maybe blog about it, but it might be fun if other people got in on it. If not, that’s cool.

In fact, I already began. I just finished ep6 of s1, but I have them all fresh in mind. I actually kinda wanted to comment things about ep5, but didn’t have a place to do so.

I’m getting S2 tomorrow, looking forward to re-watching one of the best season I’ve seen.
