Random thought of the day: The writers have repeatedly said that the smokey monster is not made of nanobots and we know that nanos would have been a most realistic way to scientifically explain its presence in a story thats trying hard to retain some realism. So the only other explanation left is that it is infact a living thing, and of course we have no creatures like that on Earth so…its an alien. If this is the case it wont be too surprising for many Lost fans what with the sci-fi aspect already in the show and obscure references like that Watchmen knock-off comic that Walt had for a while which featured an alien being experimented on.
Aliens. When this is revealed I wouldnt be surprised if half of Lost’s viewers will stop watching the show in disgust (which is stupid considering they’ve suspended disbelief this far what with everyone surviving a plane crash, etc, but thats what viewers can be like), and that is why I think we wont know what the smokey monster is until the last season.

a) It wasn’t a Watchman knock-off, it was a Flash comic book (look in the Season 1 thread for more info on it).
b) I believe either Abrahms or Lideinoff already put an ixnay on aliens. Go imagine up something else to get into a tizzy about.

One of the most interesting theories I heard during the show’s first month was this:
Everyone died during the crash.
The ones that are alive now are in limbo.
The ones that are “killed off” are actually passing through the light.
Since the first month, I’ve noticed:
The “smokey monster” is eerily reminiscent of the demons that dragged the bad guys to hell in “Ghost”.
The Others referred to themselves as “the Good Guys” in last season’s final show. (the Devil versus the Angels?)
If true, it certainly sets us up for the mother of all Alfred Hitchcock style twisted endings.

Where is that from? Is it for sure for real?
According to lostpedia it is part of “The Lost Experience”, and is therefore canon.
Personally I tend to despise metagame shit like that and await what shows up on the actual program.

Exactly. The creators even said, the main reason why they showed us Desmond’s ex and those two guys out in the Artic was to finally prove to the fans that the island exists.
And thank the gods, really, because it was a theory with more than a little weight to it and one that would have royally pissed me off.
The “The Others are Scientologists” theory, however, I think I could find to be acceptable (especially after viewing this thread the other day).
I think the numerous literary references we’ve seen in the series, such as to them being in limbo, are mostly to educate and enlighten viewers to the writers’ inspirations and influences, rather than be concrete clues to the actual plot. People get this confused alot.
I’m still waiting for them to throw in Tintin’s Flight 714 into the mix, the similarities are heavy.
I hope this Lost Experience video thing shows up in an early episode, its taking all my will power not to watch it…
I don’t know how you guys can watch this show on a weekly basis. Do you all hate yourselves? I’m 2/3rd’s through the second season on DVD right now and it’s just like the first season- a cliffhanger pretty much every episode and a buttload of questions with only a few answers. It’s maddening.
The last 1/3 of the season gets really good, and answers (and new questions) come at a pretty good clip.
I don’t find the cliffhangers as obtuse as on Twin Peaks, as cocktease as on 24, or as “fuck you” as on X-Files.
I feel as though after two seasons I have a good grasp as to how the mythology is structured and what to expect in the future (not really plot-wise, just in terms of how the show plays). What I don’t understand is all the whiners whining about a lack of answers, as we’ve been given a lot of clues and information for a character-driven mystery show.

I think the writers have caught onto the fact that last season was not as sharp and the ratings often reflected that. The scheduling this season should help keep the narrative moving a little better. That, and having that Dharma shark take a chunk out of Rose and Bernard.
