I loved Crewes’ grin when Poncho said he was a big fan of his.
I loved that Crews just sat down with a big smile on his face at the beginning when the LWA group said it was only for big winners.
Another great episode. I hope this show finds its audience but with a godawful lead-in (Knight Rider? Seriously?) I’m not holding my breath.
Hopefully the relationship between Reese and the Lt gets Dani to be a bit less one-note.
It seems like the attempts to deepen her a bit with the tragic backstory, the battle with substance abuse, and possible sex addiction just got flat-out dropped for lite romcom stylings.

Yep, there’s so much more to the show last season. I feel this season they’ve shaved it done to appeal to those who only watch the Law & Order/CSI shows, of which I am not. It’s rare that I’ll watch a cop show and “Life” seems to have morphed into one this season much more the last seaon.
As someone who burned through the entire first season in about 2 days, maybe my perception of the plotting (and overall storytelling) is a bit skewed, since I took it all in at once, but this season is definitely more cop-y, I think once they solved the ‘who killed the family’, the writer’s kind of got lost and went, ‘shit! We didn’t get cancelled? Aah hell, we have to come up with something else now.’

I don’t think I agree with this. It became obvious pretty early on last season that who killed the family wasn’t the real mystery. We still know very little about the overall conspiracy although at this point I think the main weakness seems to be that once Charlie discovered the killer he seems to have kind of lost his desire to figure out who framed him. A couple weeks ago he was all about forgiving Jack and trying to protect him, when everything points to Jack having played a pretty large part in the conspiracy so far.
Anyway, it was a fun episode. Some great Charlie moments that were already mentioned. I wished that they had added some more characters to the episode just because picking Lenny out was way too easy since there was basically only 1 person we’d seen who could possibly be him. The Tom character seemed really forced though. He drives a beat to shit Nova even though he’s a multimillionaire apparently to keep a low profile, then he fences in his entire yard and adds CCTV cameras and obviously flaunts his firearms to the neighbors since they knew about them? Not exactly low profile. It was disappointing because the scene with Charlie and Tom should have been pretty powerful. Instead it seemed nonsensical and ridiculously quick.
Life has somehow managed to snag a full 22 episode order. This is the little engine that just wont die (thankfully).

“Black Friday”. Fair to average episode, the timeline of it felt a bit off, like things happened (such as Crews meeting Jen), then backtracking to the previous day. I know it wasn’t the case, but that’s what it felt like. Underwhelming mystery, but enjoyed the playfulness of the script. Crews buying all the mall shwag was a highlight, as was the aborted dinner between Tidwell and Reese. Am definitely looking forward to the main mystery, as it seems to have taken a larger scale (and I rescind my comment about the writer’s not knowing what to do with the mystery, it’s the one thing they do know).

Yeah, I’d agree.
Crews letting the kid off at the end was a nice touch; much like his little talk with the murderer in the Stanford Prison Experiment ep.
Finally caught up with the last episode. That was one of the funnier episodes this season. The humor when the Lt. and Reese showed up together at the drug dealer’s house was great. The mystery and how Charlie solved it were pretty weak. Ted was great as always. “Charlie…there are naked women in the pool.”
I don’t watch a whole lot of network TV anymore, but tonight might have been the first time I’ve seen an actress walk around in a thong showing the goods. Granted, it was maybe for a whole second of screen time, but still stuck out to me since it’s NBC. Anyway, they couldn’t have picked a better actress, if you ask me!
The quirkiness of this show just works for me. Charlie pointing out they were eating Indian food with the deputy from the reservation, Charlie freaking out when the Lt. calls and starts talking about the panties. Heck, even the dead deputy who made 2 appearances and even let Charlie know the best way to eat deer stew didn’t bother me.
Plus, we finally have somebody who knows the secret that is implying he’ll share it with Charlie.
But yeah, the thong didn’t really hurt either.
Charlie’s “white people” line killed me. While the show seems more uneven this season than last season I still really like it. Adding Atherton has been great. He’s so good and knowing that he may help Charlie is a nice twist.
Oh, and I told my wife last night while watching the show that if Sarah Shahi ever comes calling I’m outta here.
Finally caught up with the Reservation episode (anyone know if NBC will honor it’s 22 episode commitment now that they’re being stupid?), and I have to say: I would do naughty things to Sarah Shahi’s back. Just her back. Hmmm…
I love Donal Logue’s defeated reaction after she blows him off. They work very, very well. And if this doesn’t come back, television shall be the poorer.
Last episode was okay. I hate that they’re picking on Ted because he’s so likeable, but they’re right that it’s the way to get to Charlie.
Edit: I am stoked that Roman comes back next week. We knew he was coming back, and I think he’s a great character, I’m just surprised it’s taken them this long.
A friend of mine lent me the first season on DVD, and while it took me a while to find the time for this, I burned through it pretty fast. It’s a very uneven show, but I like it a lot, mostly because the cast is compelling and watchable. I kind of love how this show could be easily subtitled “Guest Starring the B-Team of Deadwood.” I’m getting caught up on this season through iTunes, but I’m a sucker for cop shows and this is one of the better ones.
Oh, and I have a mystery for Detective Dani Reese to solve. It’s in my pants.

Yeah, that’s going to be great. I like that they gave Crews a Nicole Wallace-like nemesis, just someone who can show up every once in a while to cause major problems.
The episode with Roman was probably one of the strongest from the first season, just because Dillahunt was so goddamn good and played so well off Lewis.
It’s a shame that I’m the first one commenting. Probably the best episode of the season and a fantastic cliffhanger. I’m still trying to figure out the moment with Charlie in jail with Tins. It wasn’t his life flashing before his eyes, and his sudden gasp for breath later made me think that maybe Charlie had died and gone to hell temporarily? I would think his definition of hell would have to be that cell with nobody to talk to but Tins.
The recurring “You shot your own Dad?” joke was great, even though his dad breaking in to drop off the invitation was beyond stupid. I liked Reese vaguely recognizing Rachel but not remembering from where. Roman was wonderful although there wasn’t enough of him. The trapdoor that Pavel/Paul had placed in Roman’s remote was dumb (Elizabeta? Really?) but it seemed obvious at that point they just had to wrap it up quickly.
Anyway, I’m glad they’ll at least be back in February. I would have liked one of those commercials giving you some kind of indication of where they’re taking the show when it comes back, but I’ll just have to be patient.
