New seasons kick off next week starting with SVU on Tuesday.
The big news, of course, is Dennis Farina trying to fill the shoes of ORBACH. In the big 2-hour season premiere, Green and Fontana take on the Abu Ghraib scandal. Also, the guy who plays the dickhead IAB detective on SVU appears as some military guy. Should be good.
Looking forward to Farina. About time he got back to playing a cop.
I like Law & Order and CSI as much as the next guy, but the whole Multiverse thing is to much.

Agreed. I’ll watch CSI: Miami every now and then (non-football season) but I don’t watch SVU and CI. Give me the originals.
That being said, I do think Farina will do a bang-up job as Green’s replacement. And I’ll give Trial By Jury a shot if only because of Orbach. I have the feeling that CSI: NY will be a summer-only thing on reruns for our household.
Well, the thing with the CSI spin-offs is that it’s “same story, different city”. At least with the Law & Order shows they tackle different kinds of cases.

I can’t stand Miami. Las Vegas is very original, IMO, and I have very high expectations for NY that I feel will be let down.

I’d imagine he will be the same character considering in his last episode on the main show he said something to the likes of, “I might take a few cases for the DA every now and then.” I’d imagine that he will be a part of the show, but possibly not a main character every week.
That’s the impression I got also about Orbach. I doubt we’ll see him in the courtroom, but he might take on an Adam Schiff-like presence where he’s in it for brief snippets, and mostly in the beginning and maybe in the ending “wrap up” segment.
The two CSIs are brutal shows. Just brutal. Miami less so, but barely. So many pretty fucking faces it’s unbelievable. Any L&O is preferable.
As for Orbach doing cameos, he lives in Manhattan, so it’d be no problem for him.
And Farina deserves to be on a show with legs, for once. After Crime Story, it’s been a brutal run. Buddy Faro, that Bette Midler show…
In his last episode, Lenny said he got a job as some kind of special investigative liason with the DA’s office. My guess is that he’d act as a supervisor or something so he doesn’t have to carry the whole episode himself.

He actually said he got a job? I’m convinced he said he would fill in at the DA every now and then because he didn’t think he could leave working completely.
I think I still have it on tape somewhere, I’ll try to check. I thought when he was talking to the Captain about retiring (before he told Ed) he said the DA asked him to work for the DA’s office.

Hmmm… I thought he mentioned it outside before the two broke off. I don’t know, I could be wrong.
Car chase! Pretty good season opener, I thought. Mrs. McFly was creepy. Where was this ripped from the headlines? Somewhere back east I’m assuming.
I’m slowly getting hooked on the L&O Multiverse after catching reruns. Kinda suprising since I dug Oz on HBO and a lot of the cast mix and mingle.
Last night’s SVU was pretty good. I’ll agree with Gravedigger about Lea Thompson’s perfomance. She creeped me out and made me hate her. The little girl was adorable and I felt so bad for her and for Novak during the trial. I really liked how they showed Stabler with his kids. That’s one thing this show does extremely well, it doesn’t always make the crime/criminals black and white. The shades of grey allow the viewer to be somewhat sympathetic to the defendants as in tonight’s case.
Tonight’s 2 hour opener has me really excited.
Someday I’ll win the lottery and get all the eps. I’ve missed on DVD.
Just watch TNT and USA. They have the whole spectrum covered on L&O reruns.
I’m a big nerd and looked at the schedule for tonight. It’s not a 2-hour premiere like I thought but two separate episodes. Continuing the nerd theme, why did the girls get new title cards on the SVU opening credits but the guys didn’t?
It’s just not the same without Lenny’s Smart-ass remark before the opening credits.
With that said…Good episodes.
Farina looks like he’ll fit in nicely.
And Both Jack and the other DA ripped Serina a new one…both told her to go to her office…in back to back episodes. I guess that will explain her leaving at mid season…she’ll quit.
Yeah, it’s just not the same without the pre-credit zinger.
So far, I hate Fontana. And not just because he’s not Briscoe. It made sense for his character to be loyal to the military but pretty much all his views in the first episode pissed me off. The only thing I liked about him was when he said “Yeah, it’s okay” after the Captain said he had a nice ride.
Oh, and did Rohm stop riding the Wolf? McCoy and the DA were shitting on her constantly.
L&O ain’t the same without the Lenny Briscoe stinger.
I was irritated by the “ra-ra” Iraq war jingoism on display. Just a lot of Republican talking points.

As did I, I’ve only seen a handful of episodes of NYPD Blue but his character seems more suited for that than L & O.
