I think, as discussed in the pres thread, whether this is true or not, the dems would do well to stay the fuck away from this rumor all together. Unless it gts proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, its political poison to touch on it.
I hate the conspiracy theories that demand that we, as non-experts, make judgment calls based on photos and stuff. Too much room for bullshit. Still, what a good story!

She’s not the first mother to, uh, “take one for the team” in this way.
I’m not a conservo, but aside from the “keeping up appearances” side of things - this whole scenario is straight out of the 1950s - I don’t know that what she did indicates any sort of tremendous character flaw. It’s mainly just odd and old-fashioned in this day and age.
Oh its delicious - Primary Colors-style delicious. Thing is though, unless Palins daughter just comes out and admits it publically, I just don’t see how, if true, it’s in any way proveable.
Still, if true… fuckin hell.

I’m sure this rumor will have internet legs - it isn’t a career-sinking deal, but is IS rather sensational. I’m sure Faux News will paint it as some sort of ultimate sacrifice by a god-fearing, family-oriented mother.
Of course, while I think it’s odd but overall not anything that highly remarkable, I’m sure spin would (will?) be:

While I think the former is a bit of a stretch - the intentions would be good but the actions would be chickenshit, I certainly agree with the latter.

It says something about the media if this story breaks into the mainstream and it isn’t pursued with the same vigor as say, Anna Nicole, Jon Benet, or any other entirely empty sensational story. Talk about a ratings grabber. If there was a body buried in there somewhere, it’d be a big Law & Order episode.
I noticed in the official “family” pic that the downer was conspicuously absent. Though if corky wasn’t born then I guess that’s acceptable. I just can’t believe that a governor for less than 2 years of a state in which nobody lives and who was previously the mayor of a town of less than 7000 is being sold as a potential veep. Ludicrous.

Why wouldn’t this be important if true? It would show that Palin is willing and capable of intricate schemes of deception. Not a quality that fits well with a Vice Presidency.

You know how those of us that follow politics closely knew about the Edwards affair well before the rest of the country because the Enquirer knew something was up but the MSM never picked it up because they never had any proof? And that until the MSM picked it up and Edwards admited it every Democrat in the known universe held that fleeting hope that it wasn’t true and would get all redfaced and angry if someone brought it up.
This is like that. I’m not saying that it’s true like the Edwards thing, I’m saying that the MSM won’t touch it with a ten foot pole and that nothing will rile up a Republican like bringing it up.
I’m resting easy that the Enquirer is on the case doing all of the really unscrupulous things I could think of to prove it so that I don’t have to think of them.
If this gets more substantiated down the road, I’ll give it more weight. But for now, I’m just thinking it’s a rumor. Fact is, that women Palin’s age who have kids have a higher risk of Down’s Syndrome children than women who have kids that are her daughter’s age.
