Dude. Will they actually have competitors? Shouldn’t there be anti-trust lawyers swarming over this or something? I mean, I’m no economist, but GameStop already makes Starbucks seem sort of hard to find. A mall in my girlfriend’s hometown had three GameStops. THREE. Who could possibly need that? I mean, is it just for the convenience of videogame enthusiasts? So they can park on any side of the mall they like, with minimal walking?
That’s interesting. I thought they were all related anyway since the games store here was a Software Etc, then an EB, and now a GameStop.
if this is true this is horrible. the only good thing that would come out of it is that it would force EB games to make their inventory online (the way gamestop has it). Its great to know if the store has the game in stock before you go out there.
It’s to be expected, these stores will dissapear eventually anyways. I doesn’t make much sense to have video game stores, when people can get them online and at the local walmart.
It does while EB and Gamestop still offer the option of selling and buying used games.

What about Best Buy, Target or the myraid of other places that AREN’T WAL-MART?
GameStop was an offshoot of Software, Etc. and Babbage’s already. It was only a matter of time before EB became part of it. With the internet becoming so prevalent, I’m surprised how any software or music stores stay in business in the malls.
As an EB employee, I gotta say that this news floored me this morning. Gamestop is our hated rival…its like the Yankees moving to Boston or something. I’m worried about how this will affect jobs and store locations.
As for Wal Mart prices…wow new games are 49.97 there instead of 49.99, gotta love those big savings.

I buy my games from all kinds of places, but very rarely if ever at gamestop/sotware etc/EB games/*.
They are usually more expensive, and I don’t think their discounts for used scratched games are worth going there.
What I find funny is that you determine a gamer is less of one based on where he/she buys their games. That’s a real stupid and narrow way to look at the world.
I’m a real good friend to a manager at one of these stores, and I always ask him how come they don’t compete in price and are always expensive. He just laughs it up and says because they have premium locations at the malls, and the parents and kids don’t know any better. I don’t think I’m in their intended audience.

All of a sudden all my disdain for Wal-Mart shoppers went down a few notches. Thats some stupid shit right there.

Oh, I don’t buy games at Wal-Mart. Like the Capitan, I take issue with the idea that if you don’t buy your games from a game store you’re not a TRUE GAMER. That’s stupid.
why buy from any of these places when there’s a Frys Electronics nearby?
This is kind of strange. I saw the news on the net this afternoon but earlier in the day I called an EB and sort of heard folks in the background talking about it. Some of the store sout there are surely going to go away, which kind of sucks.
On another note, I was always aware that Gamestop was the bigger of the two, but I always kind of preferred EB. It felt to me that they had better deals on specials and trade in offers among other things. I also used to notice that some games would be more expensive at a Gamestop by about $5.00. It always struck me as kind of strange. Oh well, I don’t have any real problems with them, but now I’ll have to go there no matter where I go. Ha! I wonder when any changes will take place.
Something else… EB sells used PC games, which is cool every now and then. Gamestop doesn’t. Oh well.
I have always felt that both EB and gamestop were hiring pretentious game nerds who made it their goal in life to make mine difficult.
I rarely go to the specialty stores unless I want to reserve a game that I REALLY want the tuesday it comes out i.e. Halo 2, splinter cell:CT.
Outside of that, I can live with going to best buy or target for my games.

I have found out that,except for the really huge games, the time span between when a used game becomes availible and when the new copies of a game get discounted is not usually that great.
I buy a lot my games on line because I love History based realism heavy war games, and most of those are produced by small companies who only sell online because it’s a waste of time trying to get shelf space.
Guess the Civil War and the Age of Napoleon are not big with the geek community.
What I hate about both EB and Gamestop is if you ask the fools at the counter about any game other then the really big ones, they look at you funny. “What , you want info about Piere Molyineux’s ‘The Movies’ rather then Half Life 2”?.
I buy a lot of my games at Fry’s because they do give good discounts on new titles. I picked up Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich the week it came out for 29 bucks instead of 39, and Act of War for 35 instead of 50.
