Games you wish they would make

“They” being anyone from the big designers to the little indie guys (Spiderweb Software, for instance.)

I’d like to see a nice big 3rd-person rpg set in prison, coupled with a brutal, in-depth fighting system. The setting is well suited for an rpg - numerous quests, raising stats & skills, bizarre characters, merchants (prison store & black market), factions (gangs), and some big underlying story, perhaps about how you were set up or discovering who killed your brother (hopefully not so goddamn cliched, though.) As you progress your body would display wounds and scars (a la Fable) and of course you could get tats.

The novelty would be the setting (while many rpgs include prison segments, not have been set entirely within one) and the comprehensive fighting system (not being a player of fighting/boxing games I don’t have an appropriate benchmark of excellence, but I hear The Warriors is good), maybe another element or two that set it apart from the pack. But the overall idea is similar enough to proven games that it shouldn’t scare off a publisher.

What games would you like to see?

That sounds alright, but the enviroment will probably end up getting stale quickly. Maybe adding flash backs, to show why your in prison. And how those flashbacks are played determine if you are guilty or were set up.

Although I could see how flipping your car in a barren wasteland could be a bit troublesome, a GTA-type Mad Max game made by Rockstar North would kick all kinds of ass. Make it span the entire trilogy and beyond(and before even). Kick biker gang ass as a highway cop. Scour the wasteland for fuel(and adventure!). Visit settlements and “cities”(like Bartertown) and kill anyone who stands in your way…
But yeah, if it ever got made, a Halo type “flip vehicle” option, as cheesy as it is, would be a must. I’d be pissed if I flipped my Dune Buggy, watched in horror as it burned… and exploded, only to have to run 10 in-game miles or so to find another vehicle.
If it’s not made by Rockstar North though, screw it. All the GTA-type games I’ve played can’t hold a candle to GTA.

Is there inmate rape in the Prison game?

A Deus Ex style fps/rpg set in the wild west.

Butcher Bay doesn’t count?

I want a cyberpunk or space-faring RPG that’s as well designed as Oblivion or Masquerade: Bloodlines (the blade runner RPG was good, but was pretty much an on-rails plotline). While I’m looking forward to Bethesda’s Fallout3, I don’t think that’ll be what I’m jonesing for.

Huxley might be.

A sensory overload 2d sidescroller. Like the old shinobi games, but faster, louder, and more colorful…and with a kickass soundtrack. Something I can play with my sound system cranked up and that’ll keep my ADD addled brain happily occupied for an hour or two.

That or something that is intentionally hilarious. It could be almost any genre, but I think adventure or role-playing work best. Something like Curse of Monkey Island, but funnier, and newer.

I couldn’t agree more on a GTA style Mad Max game. That would kick multitudes of ass. Personally, the game I would like to see most would have to be…

The Last Starfighter. A recreation of the arcade machine from the movie. Could you just imagine booting that puppy up and hearing,

" Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada. "

I’d cry tears of joy.

The return of the cooperative arcade. Multiplayer top down shooters, beat em ups, and all of those other genres that have all but been forgotten with the downfall of arcades in the states (I’m unsure of their status in other markets), and the advent of internet play.

There is something lost when the people you’re playing with aren’t with you physically.

I’d love a Ghostbusters game along that plays like Half Life 2 or Doom, but kept the inherent humor of the original film. Scares + laughs x getting to zap ghosts with a proton beam = a great damn game. There have been Ghostbuster games in the past, most recently for the GBA, but they’ve always been 2-d sidescrollers, or “Get the Ecto-1 to the job on time!” type driving games. We need a game that lets you catch the ghosts, trap them, and try not to destroy the entire property while doing so (or try to, because you’ve always wanted to do that). It’d even have multiplayer opportunities, as well as co-op modes.

A Last Starfighter game would be cool as well. I also wouldn’t be opposed to a NeverEnding Story RPG that recreates the world of the novel–the rambling narrative of the second half of the book would actually lend itself rather well to an RPG, actually.

I’d love a decent Zombie GTA clone. An open-ended espionage/crime RPG. And definitely some new Lucasarts adventure games.

Wasn’t there some zombie-themed, GTA-style game in the works about a year or so ago which got shitcanned? It sounded awesome, but I can’t remember what it was called.

As for an espionage game, note to Sid Meier: please update Covert Action ASAP.

And I wish we could get some new Lucasarts adventures too; I’m not holding my breath, however.

I think a GTA style game set in ancient Rome with a little more RPG play would be sweet. You could work your way up as a criminal or a gladiator or even a centurion. You could be a slave trader and kidnap christians to feed to the lions and such. Good times all around I say. Plus you could ride around in hilariously fancy chariots.

fallout 3 - it could be the greatest thing ever. pleascome make this game.

i’ve always wanted to see a quality sequel to X-Com. I understand the original producer has just made a spiritual successor, so i gotta check it out.

Crusader! does anyone know who has the rights to that?

A strategy game of Civ-like depth dealing with organized crime. You play one of several crime families trying to expand territory, competing against the other families, upstart gangs, and the police & feds, while you exploit the citizenry.

Have a strong economic/black market model, and a strong diplomatic model (UN-like commission handles problems, but you can make secret deals behind their back.) Cover all sorts of illegal moneymaking opportunities - gambling, prostitution, narcotics, loansharking, extortion, skimming from legit industries (garment, restaurant, trash), kidnapping, robbery, fraud, counterfeiting, etc.

I also want real strategic choices. You may do a mission that gains you an ally that provides access to a great lawyer (reduced prison time for you & your men). You may then get the opportunity to play another mission, gaining you a different ally who offers sole access to a lucrative narcotic. BUT, this guy hates your lawyer source, so you can only be friends with one or the other. Which resource is more important, especially if whichever one you don’t befriend may help out one of your rivals…

While this could be a Civ4 mod, a genuine game would be cool.

Another possibility: gangster strategy/action game (with some rpg elements.) Three levels - soldier, capo & don. As a soldier it’s a 1st or 3rd-person action game, as you do your bosses’ dirty work. As a capo you have to do some footwork, but can also issue orders; half is action, half is strategy. As a don, it’s all strategy.

So, you get to choose what role you play throughout the game, or you can move up in the ranks, starting as a soldier, becoming a capo after you reach a certain point, and then becoming the don.

And seven and a half hours after this post, I see Lance Guest for the first time in ages as a guest on House. Weird.

Sid Meir needs to do an update of his Samauri game. That was even better than Pirates, and has been completely ignored in all the remake and sequel frenzy.

I wish they would make another C&C Generals. But this time add more factions and each one have their own unique superweapon.

I would love a new Total War edition, but this time set in the modern era with a more world wide scope.

Isn’t that, like, every other strategy game ever released…

To be honest I’d loved to see a rehash of Omnicron, on the Dreamcast, done on the PC using the source engine. It would be a thing of sheer joy.

Somewhat, there may be a game that captures what I’m looking for, but I haven’t found it yet. I love the Total War games. I like the way diplomacy, economics and various other little factors play a role in the development of your empire.

A game where you play as an “angel” or “demon”, set upon a Sim-like world. You don’t have control over the Sims, but you influence them to be good or evil. As an angel you try to inspire hope, charity, decency, resistance to temptation, etc. As a demon you would inspire despair, vice, total selfishness, etc. At first you would have responsibility trying to influence one Sim, while your opponent (demon if your an angel) would try to counter your influence. Your Sim would go about his/her life, and you can see their actions and how they respond to your influences.

As you grow more successful, you are given more Sims to influence. It then becomes a huge game of keeping track of your Sims and keeping them on the straight 'n narrow path while the demons of the world try to lead them to sin.

To keep it from being strictly black & white, you can have a third path, Balance, whereby you compete against angels & demons and try to balance the light & dark parts of the Sim’s nature.

Another - a PC game based on the Illuminati collectible card game. Magic: The Gathering was successful, having spawned a couple of games, but the Illuminati game is much more interesting and funny, IMO. Y’know, this could probably be done pretty easily by a small company (or even dedicated fans), it’s just a matter of designing a decent AI for computer players.
