Angela Bassett is taking over the chief resident role previously occupied by Romano and Weaver.

Reports have them bringing almost everyone back – even Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards) for a flashback sequence. Also, Noah Wyle will be back for four episodes and so will Shane West. No word as to whether or not David Krumholtz will return.

I was a big ER fan, especially of the early seasons. I think the show pretty much went off the rails after Greene died – they were unable to find as good an anchor for the show as him, despite large parts of it being Carter’s story. But it’s been on for so long, I’m interested in seeing how it all plays out.

My prediction is that they’ll get Clooney back, but it will be a top secret finale appearance.

Said it before, but for me, the show derailed when they fucked up Peter Benton’s character.

Rath is right, it was something special the first couple of seasons.

This may be controversial, but I honestly don’t think there’s been a tv episode that’s done more for an actor’s career in the last 20 years than “Hell and High Water.” Clooney was great in the first season, but he was still in the realm of “great for TV.” That episode was the one where he said, “yep, I’m a fucking movie star.”

Benton travels alone to some place, discrimination arouses. Greene’s cancer. This shows is a proverbial resume of jump the shark moments.

I started to lose interest when Greene’s cancer came back. They completly killed it…and the shit came back.

I lost interest when Dr. Kovac showed up. Just did not like the character, and hated the fact that they forced practically every woman on the show to get involved with him and his moody bullshit.

I got tired of how not a single character is allowed to be happy. Hey, Abby’s married and has a kid, let’s make her an alcoholic again! Hey, Carter found someone he loves and wants to be with forever, let’s kill his baby and make his girl hate him! And didn’t Shane West get killed by the el train or something?

I’ll probably watch the finale to see the hospital explode but that’s about it.

No West just became a double amputee.

and this goes back to my issue with Greene. He was finally happy, had a good family, reconciled with his 1st daughter. Then Blammo Cancer is back with a vengance and he dies in Hawaii.

Really though if you think about it Ross and Hathaway did finally have a happy ending.

As for Clooney, Rath, got on board the fan club during that early episode where he punched out the child abuser. (Sees a shoeprint on the girl’s back, goes into the waiting room, lifts the guy’s foot, finds a match…and then wham!) It was such a ‘fuck yeah!’ moment. Doug Ross was almost Han Solo cool.

Ironically, that might be the only full episode I’ve seen of the show. Though I did watch the live episode in 1997 for curiosity’s sake.

Like Friends, I’ll probably watch the finale for the hell of it.

I still remember that scene. Also: Clooney doing crazy medical stuff in the middle of a storm, near a sewer.
