Granted, by now I’m watching out of some odd sense of loyalty and for Jeremy Piven. The show really could have gone somewhere last season, but instead wrapped it up all too nice and neatly. But alright, whatever.
However, I think I might know why it seems like it’s all been said and done before:
New ad on HBO.com pretty much shows the show is going back to the high roller lifestyle with the comeback.
I wish they had carried on addressing the fact that Vince is a pretty lousy actor. Even if it meant he reconciled this fact by settling for paycheck gigs to get by, that would be an interesting direction to take him, he’s set for life but artistically unfulfilled. Instead they throw a Scorsese movie at him. I would believe Scorsese casting Larry David again before I bought him casting Vinnie Chase.
Like most people I just watch this for Piven. He manages to make the same, tired old shit seem fresh and fun each time.

Agreed. It’d be a nice theme to explore the whole star vs. actor thing. They sort of did it last season, so maybe the writers felt they explored it sufficiently.

God, I hope so.
This show is COASTING right now and not even trying…if there was ever any indication that Entourage needs to be an hour long show instead a half hour, it’s this episode…so much juggling and so paper thin.
Even though Vince is probably one of the biggest douchebags on TV, I still couldn’t believe that he ratted out the driving instructor while he was on Leno.
I’m so glad that everything worked out for the boys and none of them learned anything from the actions of last season. Jesus, you might as well just throw last year away.
And what the fuck was Lloyd wearing at the end of the episode? I’m surprised that he didn’t have a matching propeller beanie.
I saw this more as a setup episode to get things rolling. Nothing crazy, just laying down the foundations and I really hope they go with the idea of the guys going their separate ways. I think Vince tried to play the driver instructor as a joke, not for serious.
Would I want to say great episode? It could be if everything is followed up on. I guess that last scene at the end with Vince all alone hit me too hard. The idea of a reversal of last season (friends with no money) might be actually interesting.

That was a great moment. It’ll be nice to see where they go with it, though I suspect at the end of season six, everyone will be living with each other again.
It was a ripoff episode. Sort of like a Smallville written reset button.
Vince was broke, living with his older bro last season, landed a movie role presumably at scale (I honestly forget if they addressed salary) then fastforard a few months later where the movie isn’t out and he’s on to a new one which sounds more like Indian than Fast and the Furious and suddenly he’s rollin in it? They were repoing cars, he was flying coach. Sorry, just ain’t buying this. The only decent scene was when Vince was banging the chick in the car, that got a chuckle out of me the rest was just bo-ring.
I was excited about this returning, now… not so much.

Really? I think that was the Lowest Common Denominator joke of the show.
I’m glad it’s back… like clockwork, the thread will start off hating it… everyone sticks around and enjoys and watches it, anyway.
I really liked all the Lloyd stuff.
I could become the official apologist for this show, but nah. I’m pretty sure a lot of people actually derive some pleasure from watching/hating.
I had fun with the ep. I will continue watching and (hopefully) having fun with the eps.
Every year I watch this show and I’m amazed at how empty it seems. For some reason, I still really like it. It weirds me out.
Wait, so people actually want to see these guys part ways, lose battles with alcoholism and bottom out altogether? I don’t know about you guys, but that’s what I watch Mad Men for. I wont fault a show for knowing what its wheelhouse is and returning to it, even after five seasons.

I think what we’re looking for is a little growth – you know, what you might find in a real story.

Sort of seconding Devildoubt here, but no. What people want is to see them grow the fuck up. I also kind of like the idea that Vince getting his driver’s license may be the catalyst for that. I’m interested if the writers will be able to actually mine any real drama out of Vince’s abandonment issues.
