Devil May Cry 3: Capcom's Redemption

IGN gave it a 9.6.

I haven’t seen a review lower than 9 yet for this thing.

I hereby absolve Capcom for Devil May Cry 2.

Keep hearing the difficulty makes Ninja Gaiden look like a stroll through a field of daisies, though…

it looks bad ass i realy carnt wait for this game i hope its as good as people say..

There´s no redemption for Capcom.

Care to elaborate on that?

Yeah, with RE4 and now DMC3, I would say they’ve more than made up for any past mistakes, so I’d agree with Crow on this one.

Side note: This game and MGS3 are really making me want to get a PS2. I had one when I lived with my brother, but I moved out and it belonged to him. So I have PS2 games sitting on my shelf not getting any play time. I want one bad, but I don’t know if my wallet can take it…damn!

After DMC 2 I had no interest in this game, but after the reviews I’ve read this sounds badass. I might have to pick it up next week.

Those two games are insanely good but Shadow of Rome, Onimusha 3 and the Viewtiful Joe’s are far from bad either. I think Capcom is definitely on a roll and I can’t wait to see what they have in store. They’re also one of the few companies who actually try to come up with new an original things. From Steel Battalion to Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7 to P.N.O. 3. Oh, and Power Stone.

I had no idea that this was a prequel. That makes me want to play it even more. I only played DMC2 briefly and, of course, it sucks…to me at least. But man, that first game is a classic.

Sup Verbal.

I really want this game. So much stabbing, and shooting, and jumping around. It looks like the Tony Hawk of action games.

Devil May Cry 2 played like a David Lynch film as directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Very disjointed and “safe”. I had no idea why I was fighting the evil. Still, it was a solid rental.

Given that, Gamespot’s review. Overall, an 8.6/10. Basically, you’ll die one too many times in the game, which is a return to DMC’s difficulty.

The Screensavers reviewed DMC3 yesterday and said the difficulty is well difficult. The first DMC was a bitch but it made it worth beating. Satisfaction is not drawn from easy wins.

I have hope for this game but alas I don’t buy $50 games. I’ll buy it in 2 weeks when it drops to $40 or wait 2 months and get it for under $30.

Paid for it two days ago and picking it up tomarrow. EB even gave me a silly music download phonecard thing. Score!

No way. Ninja Gaiden is so hard that I let my friends who are actual ninjas play it and they were throwing tantrums and controllers just like me, the difference being that they were actually killing people with the thrown controllers.

I’m proud of them really. They obviously didn’t kill anything in the game. FACE!

:;ahem:: Seriously, though, I’ve been playing it on and off since I got it. Problems with fucking zombie archers notwithstanding, it is NOT the hardest game I’ve ever played. Hack-n-slasher-wise that coveted piece of my ass is still the sole property of one Contra: Shattered Soldier.

I’ve died 5 times already on the first boss, and I don’t even think he’s a boss.

Gamespot and 1up.com are a bunch of pussies. It’s nowhere near as hard as they said it’d be.

That said, it’s definitely no walk in the park. I died once on the second stage and then had the third level boss kick my sorry ass. It’s not like its stepping on the crotch of my gaming ego, but it’s definitely laying some punches into imy ego’s solar plexus.

Thank god the combat is completely aces. NG’s got nothing on the combo system here.

Fess up - are you playing the so-called “normal” mode, or did you drop down to “easy” (after dying a few times)? I want to get this game, but all of the complaints about the difficulty level are keeping me away. Harder, or as hard as Ninja Gaiden? The “easy” mode is still very hard? Screw that. I had to play thru the 1st DMC on “easy automatic” before even attempting it on “normal”.

If I want to continually get pissed off playing a video game, I’ll keep attempting the “Supply Lines” mission in GTA:SA.

I’ve been anticipating a quality follow-up to the original for some time, but all these warnings about the learning curve are holding me back. Ninja Gaiden was tremendously rewarding once I “got it.” DMC3 seems like it could be the same way…I just don’t know if I’ll be able to care enough to stick it out. I may just hold out for God Of War to fulfill my cleaving and stabbing needs.

I’m rolling on normal here.

Great tip for boss battles: Keep a yellow orb handy before you go into their room. On your first tackling of the boss, DO NOT USE ANY HEALING ITEMS. NONE. Just tough it out and observe the boss’ patterns and signals. Learn what they do, when they do it and what they do before they do it. If you can kill them, great, you’re the man. However, if you die, just use your yellow orb. You’ll continue directly outside their room and you’ll still have your healing items for the next rumble. Now, armed with your new knowledge and a few vital stars, go forth and kick ass.

Got it yesterday.

Haven’t gotten past Cerberus yet. Replayed the first two stages intentionally to get the combat down. The sole Ninja Gaiden comparison one can make is that, like that game, the biggest challenges in this game have to be dealt with using hit-n-run tactics.

The comparisons stop there, though. Difficulty? NG wins (P.S.–Gamespot? 1Up? IGN? You all suck.) Glorious combat system? DMC wins.

And the cutscenes? Already, some of the best I’ve seen in a long time.

This’ll definitely keep me busy till Doom 3.
