Tonight’s the night. FX has rolled out Dirt & The Riches this year. Dirt was shit and The Riches wasn’t anything special. I’m hoping Damages hits the level of The Shield and Rescue Me(at least the level of pre-season 4 of Rescue Me). At the very least the return of Glenn Close to tv is a great thing.
The reviews have been pretty great so far and as I’ve yet to see a single ad for this *high fives the TIVO* I’m not burned out on it before it has even started. I’ll check it out.
I hope its premiere means that I won’t have to see any more of the annoying ads for the show.

Nothing can compare to what seemed like nine months of promos for Dirt. It really, really made Nip/Tuck hard to sit through. “This time, you’ve gone too far…” Ooh, it’s edgy. It’s not like Friends. Shut up.
p.s. I’ll give this show a shot, if only because of I’ve liked looking at Rose Byrne ever since Attack of the Clones.
I liked it though the dialog was kind of labored and overwrought. Plus I think the whole idea of cops investigating Rose and everything told in flashback to be kind of gimmicky. But the characters, plotting, and excellent directing was intriguing enough to watch the next episode. What I’m trying to say is it didn’t eye fuck me and then leave with the herpes like Dirt did.
It did suffer from a lot of the contrived intrigue and displays of power that always pops up in shows about high-powered “insert career.” And yes, I was a little irritated that the story wasn’t brought all the way up to the present. I think all of that non-linear stuff works much better in a self-contained feature than an entire season of a series. That’s really gonna turn off somebody tuning in mid-season to see what the fuss is about (which might be hypocritical of me to say, given my fondness for Arrested Development’s somewhat complex plotting and constant callbacks). Of course, I didn’t like that technique in Inside Man, either, so maybe it’s a personal problem.
Still, it was pretty well executed, and now I kind of want to see where it goes.
Please tell me this means when I watch Rescue Me tomorrow I wont see Glenn Close talking about being raped at the start of every commercial break anymore.
I really liked it. The flashbacks don’t bother me at all and the cast is good even if Ray(Danson’s lawyer) has that annoying country drawl.
I need to re-watch the episode because I noticed a couple of things:
1)At the beginning when Ellen ran out of the building all bloody, didn’t she run past Pattys doorman?
2)When the cops broke down the door of Ellen’s place before they found the body, wasn’t the security chain on?

I didn’t notice the chain on the door, so I’m not sure about that. But I’m almost 100% positive that it was Patty’s doorman at the beginning.
I thought this was absolutely fantastic. I loved the ending. It felt like the end to the Shield pilot - a pretty big ‘twist’ that tells you a lot about the main character, while offering up believable plotlines involving the cast. If the episodes are all like this one, I’ll be pretty happy.

It was. Though I’m sure Patty is fine.
I thought this last night then saw on EW.com that I wasn’t alone in the Alias vibe that was hammered home with the dead fiance.
It’s worth another look and has promise but everthing pails in comparison to The Shield pilot.

I’m a huge fan of The Shield, but you have to throw Lost in there as well.
True but I try to seperate cable shows from the network ones.
Man…this show is pretty darn good…a captivating legal-TV, “Who done It”…
At first, I thought it might be just so/so…but now, I can’t wait until next Tuesday!?

Anyway, good second episode. I’m really intrigued to see where the show is going beyond this season.
A good show so far and Close is doing an excellent job of playing a cold-hearted, calculating bitch, although a very smart and savvy one.
The only thing that bothers me is Zeljko Ivanek as Frobisher’s lawyer, Ray Fiske.
His faux Southern accent in unnecessary.

They did make the point of showing the screen on the window with the pigeons and then no screen. She either went out that way or the killer chained the door then went out the window after Ellen left.
Not sure what’s the point of Katie lying so much. She’s the one part of the show I’m not buying. I would guess she might have passed messages and maybe she thinks she’d be in trouble.

I too have wondered about Katie’s fibbing…it’ll definitely add to the drama and give the writers room to work with, if they ever wanted to make her character go back on her word…with these flash-backs/forwards…you never know??

I don’t mind Ivanek’s performance… it’s the accent that’s weird to me.
And how does an actor’s performance on a TV series have anything to do with an actual celebrity and the way they speak in a public setting?
