Well, it’s not completely broken, but it seems to hate most of my games, Crimson Skies in particular. I usually can’t play for more than 10-15 minutes without getting a disc read error, so even if I can get online, I might not be there for very long.

Nah, not a problem. Crimson Skies is one of the few XBL games where the headset isn’t used much. People really only talk during game set-ups (when it IS pretty useful in that you can just tell someone when they need to switch team colors, etc.) But during actual matches people rarely use the headsets, if at all.
You should pick one up, though… at least for the other games.

That SUCKS. I’ve heard of others having similar problems and I fear it. It’s Microsoft product, afterall.
Then again… people like Nick own multiple Xboxes and have never had a problem with any of them. I’m sure yours has been “used and abused”, though.
I plan on getting one, but for some reason I always forget about it whenever I’m out shopping. I should just order one online somewhere…

No, I just have shitty luck. It’s barely 15 months old, and there’s no reason it should be crapping out already. I called up Microsoft and made a bunch of threats, and they promised to get back at me, which they never did. So fuck them.
The first copy I had of Crimson Skies skipped like a mofo. I had to replace it, and the new one works much better. Still freaks out once in a great while, but not nearly as bad as the first copy.
I can’t pin down what it is with these xboxs. My brand new copy of Dark Alliance sometimes starts locking up and just won’t quit, then the next day I’ll try again with no problems whatsoever. And some games have NEVER locked up on me, like Kung Fu Chaos, no matter how long we play, and never do.
The games that work right ALWAYS work right, but the games that lock up will always (eventually) lock up.
It’s enough to pull yer hair out.
Such seems always the case in the marriage between software and hardware (esp. when MS is involved).
