Let’s do this. IF you plan on playing WoW with the CHUD gang in the near future, please give us some feedback on which type of server you want to play on, and which faction. For those who don’t have the game yet, here’s the rundown:
Two warring factions in World of Warcraft (that’s why it’s not World of Peacecraft). The Alliance is the Goody Two Shoes Convention, and features the bland humans, the effeminate night elves, the stunted dwarves, and that pack of tiny, horny old men called gnomes. On the opposite side of the field we have the Horde… These guys think the Vikings were a bunch of pussies. They include the green-skinned orcs, talking cows (Tauren), jungle bruthas (Trolls), and… fucking ZOMBIES (the Forsaken).
Since the creampuffs and the Huns are sworn enemies… players of a Sunday School race (say, the gnomes) can’t group, join a guild, or even TALK to players of a heathen race (say, the zombies). If we want to group together we have to choose one side or the other. So which is it… do we fight for Light and Justice or do we burn and pillage? Gnomes or Zombies?
OK, about the server types. While Gnomes and Zombies are perpetually at war, the exact nature of the war changes with the servers. There are two basic types: ‘Normal’ and ‘Player vs. Player (PvP)’. On a PvP server, you can kill or be killed by a member of the opposite faction at pretty much any time and place (with the exception of the low-level starting zones, and major cities). You can be innocently slaughtering local fauna, minding your own business, and BANG, killed by a deranged midget Paladin. On the other hand you can be the one doing the BANGing (err, killing). You are almost always vulnerable to attack on a PvP server, and so is everyone else. That makes the game both more challenging and, in some people’s opinion, more fun. Keep in mind though that PvP tends to attract some real jerks. You’ll have level 60 characters just decimating entire towns filled with level 20 characters (Makes 'em feel like real men. You rock, Perpetual Video Game Dude).
The other option is a ‘Normal’ server. You can still kill the other side and be killed, but only when you choose to. No one can attack you unless you allow it. Once you activate PvP (by typing /pvp, or attacking an NPC from the other side, or just casting a healing spell on someone else already in PvP) you’re free game for 5 minutes. So on a ‘Normal’ server killing the enemy will still occur, just less often and usually when YOU want it, not when you’re trying to level or just running through the countryside.
That’s all you need to know. We’ll choose a server based on the results of the poll within in a couple days.
