Downtown is bustling with activity. Police have turned out to contain what reporters have prematurely labeled a “botched bank heist”. Simultaneously, an unexpected explosion brought down a Starbuck’s coffee shop on the east end of town, drawing new attention of news copters and onlookers.

In the shadow of this chaos, a hasty rendezvous has brought together the battered remnant of Coldstone’s favorite family.

The reunion takes place in mid-town. 48th and West, the holdout of Jackson Stein–a disgraced former surgeon now on the diRossi payroll. His name is synonymous with the subtlety of the work he provides.

Lying patched up in the middle of Stein’s living room is Virgil Abrizza. The effects of home-brewed anesthetic wearing off, the dizzied “Razor Face” blinks his way back to consciousness.

Watching over his injured comrade is Frank Tobiasi, having never left Virgil’s side since the injury back at the bank. In the corner of the room, an exhausted woman named Chelsea lies asleep in a chair, draped in Frank’s coat.

Outside on the hi-rise apartment balcony, stands Bruno diRossi, the unnaturally thin Italian hood. He paced back and forth in the afternoon sun, looking out into the cityscape.

Seated casually on a sturdy wicker chair beside him was Roman Carvaggio, the Mafia underboss who’s now-legendary crew had escaped both arrest and death more times than fate should have allowed.

As the group attempts to relax, a stir brews once again, form inside the apartment. Dr. Stein slides to the peep hole to make out a dubious pair of newcomers.

Pounding on the door is Paulie “The Jester” DiViloso, the comedian hitman just fresh off a daring escape from Triad hanchmen. He holds up his companion–a wounded strongarm bean-counter called Julian diRossi. As the door to the apartment cracks open, Julian shoves Paulie’s arm aside. “I’m fine!” he protests, before slumping to his knees.

With a sigh, Dr. Stein helps Paulie lift the bleeding Julian into his apartment. Virgil’s body is carefully slid clear as the next victim is seen to by the “doctor”.

Following a short cell call with Roman, the curiously involved Othello Redman pulls his Escalade full of mobsters into a nearby shopping mall parking lot. Diamond Valley Mall. Here Redman and his cohorts are to meet up with the mountain of muscle called Romeo, the meathead who successfully rigged the coffee-store inferno on the east side.

With Redman is Danny “Three Rings” Tivoli, the three-time mafia turncoat who was always incehs away from death. Standing outside the Escalade is Forbes “Echelon” McCready, an assassin who’s fate had become intertwined with Roman’s crew. On the other side of the parking lot, Dino Morinelli keeps a keen eye on newcomers.

“TRANSFER”
Stein’s Apartment
(ATTN: Roman, Paulie, Bruno)

Now that things have settled, Bruno reminds Roman that the certificates he holds from the heist are time sensitive, and need to be taken to Capella mansion right away. Failure to bring this “take” money to Don Paolo will be seen as a personal failure on Carvaggio’s part.

Paulie manages to talk Stein out of his car keys, hoping to avoid unwanted attention in the doctor’s gray SAAB.

The three of you prepare to leave.

“RECOVERY”
Stein’s Apartment
(ATTN: Frank, Virgil, Julian, Chelsea)

Frank opts to remain behind to oversee Chelsea and the recovery of the two wounded. For the time being, the doctor is willing to house the quartet, with promise of additional compensation for his time.

As Virgil eventually becomes mobile, he and Frank have discussed their options. While Julian and Chelsea are unconscious, Frank and Virgil have a chance to talk between themselves. The debate begins as to what must be done with the woman who is now in way over her head.

“REGROUP”
Diamond Valley Mall
(ATTN: Romeo, Othello, Tivoli, Dino, Forbes)

The Escalade is appraoched by a taxi. Dino and Forbes eye it carefully, relaxing a bit to see Romeo climb out of the cramped back seat. He nods to the two guards.

“Nice fucking day, huh?” he chimes as he joins up with the two outside the vehicle.

The remainder of your assignment at the mall here is a small “package” pickup, which is to take place now that you are assembled.

Meanwhile, inside the car, Tivoli and Othello have another brief chance to talk candidly. Danny takes the opportunity, “I swear to god,” he whines, “You shoulda put one between that Mick’s eyes back there. That poindexter is trouble. You fucking know it.”

Transfer

Roman looks to Bruno, “You drive.” Then to Paulie, “Ride shotgun, Paul. I think you missed your calling in demolition”

Roman slides into the backseat and slams a fresh clip into his MP5 and clicks the safety off. Roman keeps his eyes primed for suspicious activity as the certificates are life and death.

He eyes Rings.

“Never fear my dear. I never forget when people deal me bad shit. Remember that. I am also most forgiving when I want to be though.”

The razor sharp tanto flashes out and he slashes the bonds holding Tivoli.

“Don’t go anywhere.”

He replaces the black blade and steps out of the SUV.

“Well girls are we ready to do this?”

Frank turns to Virgil, staring at his bandaged torso.

‘You don’t look so bad to me, Kid. ‘fact, you look strong enough to pull the fender from a 72’ Pinto.’

The stench of betrayal hung in the air. Forbes could feel it.

Turning to his silent colleague, he said, "Things are about go bad real fast. Be on your toes, fellow soldier. "

Othello looks up at Romeo. “So what do we do?”

TRANSFER

Paulie checks his pockets. He’s still got a few clips of ammo left for the Uzis, but he’s thinking that he may want to distance himself a bit from the urban renewal project he was just part of. He places the guns and ammo on an empty table, then sighs heavily.

“Sorry, girls. It was fun while it lasted, but sooner or later it had to end.” He turns to the doctor. “Hey Doc!” The doctor looks up from his ministrations on Julian. Paulie gestures to the Uzis. “For the loan of the car. File the numbers off, they ought to fetch you somethin’.”

He turns to go to the car, patting his 45s beneath his coat.

“Alright girls, Daddy’s home.”

He slides into the passenger’s seat, eyes alert, already missing the comforting presence of heavy chassis-mounted firepower.

“I’m ready, let’s go.”

Recovery

Virgil smiles dryly at Frank.

“As a matter of fact I did once, see there was these guys had me cornered in a junkyard and…forget it.”

He lets out a heavy sigh.

“So, how long have my lights been out? And what do we do now?”

Transfer
Stein’s SAAB: En Route to Capella Mansion
(ATTN: Roman, Paulie, Bruno)

The slick wheel-man called Bruno bites back a smirk as his two companions gear up for Carmageddon. He slides into the driver’s seat of the SAAB, sliding the chair up and down, back and forth until he feels at home.

The engine turns over smoothly, and in a few moments, the three of you are off to the mansion.

“How much we pull in?” Bruno asks nonchalantly. “Between the heist and the protection money? You gonna have your take, Rome?”

Transfer

Roman looks at Bruno. “Not nearly enough, paisan. But I have something in a little cache at the mansion that will even things out.” Roman says as he is typing a text message on his cell to Paulie. He confirms the message on the display…

Take the wheel.

…his finger hovers over the send button.

Recovery
Stein’s Hi-Rise
(ATTN: Virgil, Frank, Julian, Chelsea)

Frank and Virgil sit at a small table in the dining room, going through coffee and some fresh doughnuts.

Stein has collapsed in his bedroom after the last bit of “surgery” was complete. Julian bitches away in the living room, flipping channels on the remote while trying to avoid upsetting his stitches.

“Anybody seen my cell?” he demands. Neither of you have.

Chelsea is still out cold as well, sleeping right through the commotion, still on a large reclining chair in the same living room as the loudmoth diRossi.

Virgil and Frank regard each other nervously. Neither one wanting to suggest the topic that is already on both their minds.

What to do with the woman.

Romeo looks to the group assembled outside the car. “I’ve got a few packages in the trunk that need to go to some of our people around town. Each of you grab one, let’s go.”

The trunk pops open to reveal a dozen or so brown taped packages. Romeo goes first, cradling two boxes, one in each arm.

He stands pateintly. “Looks like our guest ain’t going anywhere. You gonna be okay, Danny-boy?” he chuckles at the tied up two-face in side the car.

“Go fuck yourself,” the muted reply comes from behind the car door.

Romeo waits on Forbes, Dino and Othello to join him.

Against his better insticts, McCready reaches into the trunk and grabs a package. If shit was going to start flying, then he’d better have some sort of defense.

He caresses the brown paper like a lover, looks up at the hulking Romeo, and grins.

“Aw, mate…you shouldn’t have. She’s so sexy.”

‘You were out for a good few hours. Wondered if you were going to pull through for a bit.’

Frank stirs his coffee again and again. The silence is uncomfortable. But he knows someone must speak.

‘I’ve made up my mind. She stays. But not here. I need to get her away from this city.’

“I ask because pops can be a real asshole about money,” Bruno keeps his eyes on the road being careful to drive ‘straight’.

“The last thing we want is to show up without our take. He insisted we come out here to get you guys on track.”

A red light turns green, the car resumes course.

Bruno continues, as if conversing with himself, “You know he wasn’t happy at all about it. That was fucking clear when he got into town. But when Capella began to get behind… that wasn’t your fault. You done good Roman. the old man will be happy, we leave you guys in peace, and you got your city back.”

“It’s supposed to be blow,” Romeo announces, suddenly remembering to whisper. “But the way I figure one or two of these boxes… the big ones… have gotta be severed heads.”

“This mall… its located on the edge of town. It never seems busy, but never goes outta business. That seem… normal to you?”

“Can we go now?”

“The fuck are you two talking about?” Julian chrips from the living room. His shout manages to finally rouse the rested Chelsea from her sleep.

Othelo grabs two of the bigger packages and puts them in the Escalades rear passenger side.

“My going rate makes me a pretty expensive runner but what the hell.”

He looks over at the Proessor and Dino.

“You boys are gonna have to find your own ride. I ain’t nobody’s damn chauffer.”
