* CHUD Mafia RPG - Chapter 4

Quote:

RathBandu: Gone Rogue: The Next Assignment Forbes can hear the footsteps pounding behind him. He remembers his mentor’s words from his days in the IRA. Boy, you can fuck with us. You can fuck with the Brits. You can fuck with the n----rs. And you can fuck with the Italians. But don’t you EVER fuck with the Triads. They are unfuckablewith. Cross them, and they’ll come back one billion strong. Hit us hard enough, and we’ll eventually give up. But the Triads…the Triads never give an inch. They just keep coming. Forbes stops and throws his pistol towards the oncoming footsteps. Before the bullets can hail, he screams: “I was a fool. I am unarmed. I know it is not possible for you to forgive me…but let me repay you. Let me live, and the services of Echelon are yours…for as long as you like. Please.” He drops to his knees in the darkness and waits to die. His last thought is: That was fucking pathetic. But I hope it works. For her sake. For my boys’ sake.

A trio of Triads arrive, lead by the only slightly-flustered Linh. While her henchmen pant and catch their breath, she remains calm and steady.

The Mandarin phrases seem to pass between them as though subtle barbs, quips aimed at Echelon’s sudden change of heart.

Linh slowly smiles a bit. Then turns to Forbes to address his surrender.

“Wisdom has prevailed after all,” she sounds as though she lost a bet, and one might expect her to snap her fingers in an “almost had it” gesture, if not for her subtle presence.

“Your services as an assassin are needed again. If you swear loyalty to us and prove yourself… we will clear you of any suspciion regarding the attacks on Don Capella…”

You were not aware of a second attack, it must be a reference to her implied blackmail.

What say you, Echelon?

DIVERSIONS

Paulie hauls the piss-covered man to his feet and slams him up against the car. He leans in close.

“Your job was to watch the don. Your job was to die before you let anything happen to him.” Paulie’s voice is low, calm, but oozing malice. “There ain’t a goddamn thing you can say to me that makes it right that you’re alive and he’s dead. And the only reason your grey matter ain’t decorating the side of this ride right now is because somewhere in there is what went down.” The man sobs, and Paulie finally explodes.

“YOU FUCKING WANT SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT? Then don’t tell me what I want to know, I swear on my mother’s eyes, your family will be getting pieces of you in the mail from now until Gabriel blows his horn!”

The man swallows hard, then opens his mouth to speak.

(I shall now leave it to our esteemed GM to provide the details of our man’s story)

The Next Assignment

Blood streaming from his eye and dripping on the floor from his ankle, Forbes stands up.

“Madam, while I thank you for choosing the wise decision, I cannot swear alliegance to you. I offer my services as an assassin to you freely, and offer them without a charge, but to come under your permant employ, this is something that I cannot-indeed, I must not do.
For I am the sworn poet of every dauntless rebel, the world over, and he going with me leaves peace and routine behind him,and stakes his life, to be lost at any moment.*”

*Walt Whitman.

The troubled man tries to summon the remainder of his manhood (metaphorically, SHEESH!), and stands on his own feet.

“Joey grabs me by the sleeve, starts dragging me outside… didn’t know what the fuck was goin’ on. I see like every guy in the house sprintin’ for the door…”

He catches his breath, very nervous once more.

“We get outside, and it’s rainin’ bullets. Don’t see shots, just guys… falling like bowling pins.”

“Three of us, standing around the Don’s bed. I see Joey go down, I go down. I thought he was goin’ for cover…”

The man seems to pretend remorse for his comrade. It is evident that he was really in tears because his own life was at stake.

“I called Mr. Carvaggio as soon as I came to my senses.”

He taps pocket, where his cellphone rests next to the empty holster for his pager.

“I swear, Paulie,” afraid of the Jester’s reputation, “I was trying to get backup. Figured you guys for dead inside…”

After years of interrogating people, you get the feeling this yellow bastard ismore than nervous.

He is fucking lying to you.

“I understand. You want to be free of restrictive alliances…,” she speaks coyly.

“I assure you that you will only be needed for one more operation. After that, you are free of our contract… and our graces…”

Figuring everything is going pretty smoothly Othello leaves his men on the roof with orders to yell if they spot trouble and not to shoot without permission. He slings his rifle and slides down the ladder to ground level.

The office door rattles in its casing as he knocks. “It’s Othello.”

A voice comes from inside. “Clear.”

He opens the door and asks the two men to step outside. They comply after exchanging puzzled looks.

He spins a chair around and straddles it. “Mr. Tivoli, I am certain that you realize there is a chance that you won’t survive the next twenty-four hours. Understand. I am doing everything in my power to see that you do, but I am not God. I find myself wondering, as it is my ass on the line for you, what it is that you know that makes you so important. Care to share?”

Diversions

The black BMW carrying Roman Carvaggio and Frank Tobiasi screeched to a halt at the front gate. The 9’ foot iron wrought gate swings open wide with a creek. The car pulls in slowly.
From the backseat Roman eyes everybody through the sight of his rifle willing to perforate the metal skin of his car if need be. Dead bodies are strewn about the driveway and his newly acquired inner-circle are the only ones on their feet. Paulie has Ernesto by the nape of the neck. The car stops a few feet from them.
Roman exits and does a check of the adjacent rooftops and any nooks and crannies where a sniper could be laying in wait. Given the clear he moves to Paulie.
Roman can smell urine on Ernesto. Without taking his eyes from Ernesto’s he asks,
“What’s he know, Paul?”

‘diversions’

Frank sits in the car, keeping the engine running, looking around the place, around the building’s exterior. Scanning. He looks over at Roman, then at Paulie and the piss-soaked dead man he’s holding.

The Next Assignment

“What did you have in mind?”

DIVERSIONS

“What’s he know?” Paulie answers, never taking his eyes off the man in front of him. “Well, he doesn’t know that I am the wrong fucking man to be lying to.” The word “wrong” is punctuated by a hard punch to the man’s stomach. He crumples instantly to the ground, and Paulie is right on top of him, his knee on the man’s chest. His pistols are drawn, one to the temple, one right in the crotch.

“Don’t matter to me which head gets blown off first, Pinnochio, but you don’t cut the lying shit right now and these two pieces of lead are going hiking.” He turns to Roman. “You might want to talk some sense into your boy here. Him and the truth aren’t exactly on speaking terms right now.”

(well, someone has to get the shit started)

Coldstone

“Why the fuck am I doing this? I’m not even employed by the Capellas. I’m free-lance, a goddamn mercenary…Aaaaw stop kidding yourself, you know you’re only doing this for yourself sucker. You want the head of the man who almost got you arrested. What’s done is done, roll with it.” Virgil said to himself.

The group of limos was nearing the warehouse. Virgil ordered them to a stop before they could reach the point where they would still be out of sight. He gathered all the men around.

“Alright, we can’t go any further with the limos or else we’ll be spotted faster than you can say “die, fucker”. From here on, we gotta lay low. Here’s the plan: Me, Vinnie and Lou are each gonna lead a pack of 8-9 men. I don’t know about the access points, I think we can count on the front door, probably the roof and maybe a rear entrance if we’re lucky. But we have to get past the gards. We’ll split up, each group tries an access point. I take the roof, Vinnie, you go up front, Lou, you check out the back. And now, for the special treat.”

Virgil opened the trunk of his limo and pulled out three sniper rifles.

“High-precision gun, pals. Useful for taking guards from a distance. The goal is to come as close to the guards as possible without getting spotted, then when they’re in sight, use this. I’ve equipped each one with a silencer so don’t worry about the noise. If you’re lucky enough to get within 5 feet, either use a gun, a knife or snap their necks, whatever the hell pleases you. If you don’t think you can use the rifle, well you’d be unlucky if not a single man in your group was a sharp shooter. First group to reach and secure an entrance warns the other over the talkie, then I suggest tossing in a couple explosives, disorient them and let them know what’s coming to them. So, ladies, everybody cool with the plan?”

Diversions

Roman crouches down to peer into Ernesto’s face.

“I realize that at the moment you may not value your own life, Ernesto. But God has instilled in me a dire need to know whether you value the life of your family. This man, here,” motioning to Paulie, “This man won’t stop with you. He will inflict intense suffering on those you love.” Roman stands up. “You have one chance. You can die like a whimpering coward knowing you have also condemned your family. Or you can die with honor, as a man…having protected them even in your treachery. It’s your choice.”

Roman looks to Paulie, at the ferociousness in his eyes, and wonders if what he offered Ernesto was more truth than fiction.

Diversions
(Katanga, Fett, Poxy, Verbal, Voltes)

Ernesto tries to suck it up. Knowing that his life is about to end if he’s not careful with his words, he calms his stammering.

“I… I was supposed to keep tabs on youse guys…,” he fights back more tears, “make sure we stayed here while… while the fellas move on Tivoli…”

ALl of this ridiculous diversion starts to make sense. Roman and Paulie sense it simultaneously. Tivoli… the rat was the leak behind all the moves against Capella’s men. Probably bought Ernesto just to help place his sniper.

“It’s an ambush…,” Ernesto blurts out. “Probably did youse guys a favor by keeping you here while it goes down.”

Despite the urgency of the situation, the five of you, the “Inner Circle” that remains of the Capella family… all you see in the man in front of you is a sponge that has been wrung out. This man was a significant part of all your misery, the death of the Don.

With precious little time left, Ernesto had proven to be of no more information.

His pleading and begging seems to fall on deaf ears. He collapses at Roman’s feet.

“You gotta forgive me,” he whimpers, “They made me do it… threatened my kid…”

Diversions

“We gonna do this rat fuck, or what?”

Diversions

“Your family will be compensated for their loss.” Roman steps away from the blubbering imp. Roman meets Paulie’s glare.

“End him.”

((The GM–General Logan–will be playing Jimmy Palooka until the end of the week, at the resuest of his player, who is tied up with work, etc.))

Sitting in front of you, figeting nervously is the infamous Danny “Three Rings” Tivoli. He is named so because of the gaudy gold rings that line the index, middle and ring fingers of both of his hands. He taps them together, anxious for what is coming.

He takes his eyes of Jimmy Palooka, the arms dealer loaded down with his own latest merchandise, and slowly glances up to Othello Redman.

“So, you like in charge here, pal?”

The silence is his answer.

“Right… ya see, those neckless mooks want to ice me. I don’t blame 'em. Kinda rubbed 'em the wrong way, ya see?”

He swallows hard, then continues. He is now opening up, though still shaken by every creaky floorboard and sneeze or cough in the building.

“That’s why Avery has you guys watching me. Yeah, I recognize your boss (meaning Weasel)… and he works for that prick Steadman. I guess keepin’ me alive is his ace up the sleeve. He won’t get invovled on his own… the chicken shit… he wants your homies (sic) here to start a war with the Capellas.”

“Avery is supposed to keep me safe. I am supposed to talk to the man himself. You got any idea on when he’s gettin’ here?”

The gathered mobsters adjust their ties and load their guns–these suited gorillas look to you for an assignement.

As for Vinnie and Lou…

DIVERSIONS

“Finally.”

Paulie pulls both triggers simultaneously and watches Ernesto slump lifeless beneath him. Then he stands and looks to Roman.

“You’re the brains now. What’s next?”

Coldstone
(capteucalyptus, Dan Whitehead)

Othello looks at the man with icy contempt. “You are a fool if you think the man is coming here. We’ll get you to him soon enough. If you’ve got nothing more to say then I’m going to move you to a safer location in the building. I want you with me the whole time from now on.”

Tivoli stood nervously and as he did the big man stood as well and stepped into him. “And if I ever hear you use the word ‘homie’ again I’ll break your nose. Coming from your mouth it sounds too much like ‘nigger’.” “Rings” swallowed loudly.

Othello spun around and opened the office door. The rat followed at a respectful distance. The Moor collared one of the hired hands. “I want you two to guard this room.”

“You want us to guard an empty room?” The glare answered the question for him. “Yessir.”

“C’mon Tivoli. Palooka, you stay with me too.” Othello headed for the ladder. Stopping at catwalk level he took out the cell. “JT. I want you to be extra careful. If you see mooks I want lots of noise but don’t put yourselves in too much danger. You are to be a warning and a distraction. Anyone falls and the club gets their cut. Bolt when you get the signal, you’ll know what I mean when it comes. Cool?”

“Cool, G.”

“Any sign of the cars?”

Coldstone

(To Othello):
“Naw man… those calzone eatin’ mother-fuckas ain’t showed up yet… can’t even smell that nasty-ass cologne they be wearin’”
