Thought we could start off a fresh thread in anticipation of the new season. It kicks off on Jan. 9th and I can’t wait! The new trailers look fantastic and I hear we find out who management is early on in the season.
Anyone have scoop?
No scoop from me, but God knows I’m looking forward to Carnivale’s return. Hope this new season (and this new thread) are as fun as last year’s.

While it was started a while ago there is another thread. Someone will probably will make another “official” Season 2 discussion thread the day or so before it airs which can’t come soon enough.
Anyone else have the Season 1 DVD set? Is the Season 2 trailer on there? The Special Features listing on the back isn’t so descriptive and I haven’t had time to go through the discs to check. I’ve seen the title card at the end of the trailer a dozen times but have yet to see the entire thing.
I haven’t picked up the first season yet, but I’m thinking it may be a good thing to pick up for this weekend. For those of you who wanted to take a glance at the olde Carnivale thread from last year…

I SOOOOO can’t wait for this show to premiere. I wonder if there will be any new trailers before the first episode?

It’s about time. I’ve been waiting paitently for this season to begin and January can’t come fast enough. It seems Scudder plays a far greater role in all of this than we realize. I can’t begin to imagine how it will play out.

I so didn’t want to search for that, but am glad that you did. I will be going through it after I watch Season One again. So far I’ve watched the first 4 eps. The commentaries are pretty useless so don’t watch them unless you want to be bored for 4 hours.
My thoughts questions after rewatching the first 4 eps:
Ben and Justin’s visions in episode one foreshadowed a lot of things, including IMO who would turn out to be good and who would turn out to be evil. And when Sofie read Ben’s cards, she turned into evil Brother Justin and screamed at Ben, “Tell me what you are hiding!” Also, I originally thought Sofie was just channeling Brother Justin or seeing something in Ben’s cards. But from what I remember about the season finale, Sofie is connected at a much deeper level.
The commentary regarding the shared vision by Ben and Justin in the diner mentioned that the line “Every prophet in his house” referred to the four characters in the scene. This means in addition to Ben, Justin, and Scudder, the Russian soldier is also a prophet and has a role to play in all of this.
In Ben’s vision, he sees a bear with a red circus hat with Russian writing. In episode two, that same hat is hanging on the door to Management’s trailer.
Lodz and Appolonia have a greater role in this than I realized. First, Appollonia was desperate to read Ben’s cards. When he refused to come back for a second tarot card reading, Appolonia actually walked over to Ben and said, “You’re the One”. I had forgotten about that. Secondly, I remembered how desperate Lodz was to find out what was up with Ben, but I was watching the show with subtitles and there were two lines I didn’t catch previously. Lodz visited Appolonia in her trailer and was discussing Ben with her. At one point he says, “We were always stronger together than apart.” I have no idea what that means, but as they are both mind readers of sorts, I feel like he’s referring to getting inside someone’s head. In another scene, Lodz is desperate to have Samson tell Management about the significance of Ben. Lodz says to Samson, “Management won’t listen to me anymore…ever since St. Louis.” We know that Lodz used to have Samson’s job back in the day, but I don’t think we ever found out what happened in St. Louis. I’m damn curious. Lastly, and this is a big one that I missed last season, in episode 4 Lodz tells Ben during the blizzard, “I gave up my eyes for a fraction of what you possess.” So apparently, someone or something (Management?) has the ability to give others powers. Ben and Justin were born with their “gifts”, but Lodz was not. This intrigues me to no end.
Lastly, Mrs. Donovan (an ex-lover of Henry Scudder) told Ben about the “rules”. When Ben asks her if she’s seen Scudder since he left her, she says, “Only in my dreams. He sent you one about me, Ben Hawkins.” It was apparent to me the first time around, but still relevent to say that Scudder is communicating with people through their dreams and visions. The question is “why?” and I suppose that’s what Season 2 will attempt to explain.
I kinda get the feeling that Lodz and Appolonia were a couple (and hence the stronger together than apart line). Also wonder if Lodz lost his eyes from being gifted powers, then is that what happened to Appolonia?
I’m thinking I’m going to have to watch with the subtitles on too. I didn’t even think about using that for those little dialogues that we missed.

I don’t think they were a couple. There’s nothing to indicate that they were. And I get the sense that his comment was specifically referring to their powers.
It would be interesting to find out what happened to Appolonia. Wasn’t she raped by the weird tattoo guy? I can’t remember if she was catatonic at that time. I have to pay attention to that when I get to that episode. It does make me wonder whether Sofie was the product of that rape and whether that is how she is connected to all this. Obvioulsy, Appolonia feels Sofie is dangerous in some way since she tried to kill her.
Yeah, I think she was raped by the Tatto Man. I think we saw it in a dream/vision sequence.
As to Ludz and Appolonia. Lots of history there, I’m leaning that they were a couple. In fact, I kinda think that Sofie might be their daughter. Her powers seem to be a natural extension to Lodz and Appolonia. I could be completely off base too though. Maybe they are related by blood. Cousins. Brother/sister? *shrugs* Something more than just business.
this has given me impetious to dig out my dics and rewatch the episodes again before the new season. it has been too long between seeing them and starting up another round with this show.
i always doubt what a charcter says when they are trying to influence another, sic, Lodz telling Ben about giving up his eyesight for his power. it’s more then likely it was a tradeoff which he had no choice in but that’s how he “sees” it now. i’m thinking, as this show seems to believe in a balance of somekind, there’s always going to be a payment for power as Ben and Brother Justin are finding out.

Even if it were a “tradeoff,” Lodz’s statement still applies. He lost his sight in order to get his mental powers.

if Lodz knew the price would he still pay? my interpretation of the scene is that he makes it seem like he did, when in all probablity he didn’t. he got the powers without knowing the price. there’s a difference between saying “i gave up my sight” as opposed to “my sight was taken from me.”

I knew there was a reason why I liked you…you so smart.
It’s interesting. Reading through those bios again makes me think either a) there were clues to these answers throughout the season I just missed or b) they’re going to throw a lot of info at use very fast in the first episode or two of the new season.
Either way, I need to get on the stick and watch the DVDs before the 9th. I haven’t watched an episode of the show since the season finale.

I get the difference of giving up his sight vs. having it taken. However, I think the way he stated it to Ben, whether or not he had the choice, the outcome of having the powers was worth losing his sight.
This sounds like a show I should look into.

Holy crap! That explains a lot and definitively ends the debate how Lodz lost his eyesight and at what price.
Sofie and Appolonia’s new bios give a brief explaination how Apollonia became an invalid.
I am even more excited now to see Season 2.
