Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

So, anybody got any advance word on this? It hits stores today, and I’ve kinda been looking forward to it a long time.

Here’s the official site, by the way. Looks really good to me, but I’d like to see some reviews or opinions on gameplay.

Wait, this actually came out?

I don’t believe you.

I’m expecting a review copy this week and am hoping against hope that it’s halfway decent. The thing has been in development for so long, and remained largely off the radar, that it’s a real unknown quantity - and that worries me.

Is this the PC release or is it being released to consoles as well? I seem to recall hearing something about this game a year or two ago.

I know it’s hitting Xbox and pc, other than that I’m not sure. I’m still trying to find out if the Xbox flavor is 16x9 and 480p myself…

They’ve been working on this since the Star Spawn first crashed into our oceans.

I had no idea this was out. Zero fanfare, especially considering this is from Bethesda (Morrowind).

Any reviews out there yet?

I don’t see how it can work. How can you show creatures of indescribable horror? By that nature, surely they then become describable, therefore, they’re no longer indiscribable.

It’s been developed by a UK studio called Headfirst. Take Two are publishing it over here, under their 2K Games imprint.

I believe there’s a co-publishing arrangement going on between Bethesda and 2K Games.

Personally, I’ve been looking forward to this game for a couple years. I can’t believe it’s finally here.

The fact that there is not a lot of marketing going on with this game is sending up some flares with me. I have been looking forward to this since I first heard about it but the lack of ads is almost like they have a turkey on their hands and don’t want to throw good money after bad.
I hope I am wrong. I really do.

Reader reviews seem positive, press reviews seem to be between an 8 and a 9. I haven’t been able to read the details yet, as work sucked today.

!!! I’ve been waiting forever for this game! And it could actually be good! That would be great news!

If this game can drop you somewhere in Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythology I’m there!

I haven’t heard too much about it but I’ll be on the lookout for info about it. Thanks for the heads up.

I noticed that some of the flak for the release talks about the PS2 version coming out too. Anyone know when it’s going on sale?

I’ve been waiting for this game avidly for almost 5 years, since I heard it announced.
It was originally a PC game, then was ported to PS2 and X-Box…then, alledgedly the PS2 version was dropped, and now, some 2 years AFTER it should of been released, it’s coming out on the X-Box.
…No word on the PC version…and for some reason when the developers are asked, 'When is the PC version coming out?", they hide behind some ‘non-disclosure’ crap from Bethesda…

I think the game I’ve been waiting for on PC for 5 years, is still locked inside Randolph Carter’s head.

Bugger…

I remember seeing shots for this years ago and there was no interface. You weren’t sure how much ammo you had, you had to judge your damage by whether or not you were moving slow, etc. I hope this is good

definitely looking forward to playing this one.

also hoping that some company will step in to save Cthulhu: Destiny’s End from the scrapheap.

My copy arrived this morning, though I won’t get to play it until later. I actually spoke to the developer a few days ago, and they described it as more of a first-person detective adventure with some shooting elements rather than a flat-out FPS. It’s true there’s no HUD, but that’s because they felt it spoiled the atmoshere of the game. You can apparently call up the info, but it isn’t on-screen all the time.

I’m kinda optimistic, though having just played Land of the Dead it shouldn’t take much to cheer me up.
