Last night we created a gameroom called “chud” where the password was “chewer.” It seemed to work pretty well, so if you’re the first one online, you might give it a shot.
Is it 100% certain that European Live players cant play American ones on this?
No harm in trying I guess.
EDIT: That’s a great review by the way. Especially ‘Shut up, asshole’.
And I think we’ve all here been in ‘The Zone’. Probably my best example was playing Halo co-op all night while talking to my friend, and not even thinking about what I was doing on screen. It just came naturally.
All you PAL guys, try this. Switch your XBox settings over to 60 Hz, then try entering the CHUD game. According to the midgets over at Gamefaqs you’ll be able to join us and die.
Good God I just played this for three hours, and if my roommate hadn’t disappeared into his room for the night where the cable modem is, I’d be online right now.
This game seems like it was made for me. By Jesus. Slater’s article thing has only made me want it more.
Oh, and the controls only seem twitchy in F-Zero GX if you haven’t practiced enough. It is a brutal game, but I’m still playing it now, a year after it’s release.
Sorry, Sphinx, but I think I’m done with Xbox Live for the night. I’m sick of EA’s worthless servers fucking me in the ass. For the record, after it booted you out of the chud room for no reason, it told me that you were playing in a DIFFERENT “unknown” room that was somehow also named chud. When I tried to join, it kicked me back to the lobby. I came back in, saw that you were in a chud room, tried to join, and it said the room didn’t exist. I tried to create another room with the same name, and it said the chud room already existed. And then it said I have no internet connection, despite the fact that I’m obviously writing on the internet right now.
So, yeah…fuck EA. I’m gonna be mad if such a phenomenal game is ruined by their inability to keep their servers up and running. And if the games are crashing this badly at midnight on a Thursday, this weekend is going to be hell. This shit better be patched soon.
Well put, Slater. Wonderful article, sums up my feelings for the game perfectly.
Earlier I was playing and I started to get close to nodding off at the end of the race, but I kept my head up and finished, and immediately fell asleep in the chair. The race was the only thing keeping me awake.
This is the first game since Amplitude to put me so deep in “the zone”. The sense of speed is amazing, helped in no small part by the cool motion blur effect (dig the way cars going way faster than you become sort of indistinct-looking) and just the sheer amount of SHIT you have to watch out for.
And the damned cars just keep getting faster and faster. Anyone tried the F1 racer yet? Or one of the “super” class cars? In.Fucking.Sane.
Online play is, of course, in a league by itself. My only problem with it is that I cant seem to find any damned servers. When I check the full list, I SEE plenty of them, but they are all greyed out. If I do Optimatch with no filters I usually only get like 3 or 4 servers. What gives?
Dammit Slater, it wasn’t supposed to be like this. Thanks to an ever shrinking gaming budget, and less free time than ever, I’ve managed to get maximum play time out of each purchase. In the beginning of the year, I played at least 80-90 hours of KOTOR. I followed that with Pandora Tommorow and played it exclusively for a few months. Back in July, I bought ESPN Football, with the intent to keep playing it until Halo 2 in November, but then I read about Fable coming out next week, and I pre-ordered that.
Now you’re telling me that there’s ANOTHER unbelievable kickass game I need to grab? I hate this stupid Xbox, with all its fucking awesome games…I won’t have time to play them all until my six week old learns to circle strafe.

Supposedly, the games are pretty much identical except for slightly faster loading times and the ability to use custom soundtracks on the Xbox. If you can live without those features, the PS2 version is similarly great, from what I’ve heard.

I’ve read that the PS2 version is nearly identical. They both run at a solid 60fps, support widescreen, and look glossy as hell. The advantage to the Xbox is loading times and 480p. Minor, IMO. (EDIT: as noted already since I post slowly)
As for the soundtrack, PS2 owners can just turn the music volume down separately so they don’t have to mute the sound effects. Then again, they may dig the music. The only ones who get The Golden Shaft in this deal are people who only have a Gamecube.

Trust me, man, get this over Spider Man 2 any day of the week.
