Bad-ass video game villains

There’s been some good ones here, including Mike Tyson and Dracula…here’s my top 5.

  1. The Ghost Pirate LeChuck-Not only could he survive being killed on multiple occasions, but he knew the true Secret of Monkey Island.

  2. The Dragon from The Immortal (ummmm…is it possible to figure out the right order of spells without fighting him fifty times in a row…),

  3. Garland/Chaos-Not only will Garland knock you all down, but the fiends will send him back in time 2000 years so that he can send the Fiends forward and complete the time loop…or something like that. Plus he gets reincarnated as a total nightmare who casts nasty spells and fully heals himself repeatedly. If you only used one fighter and he got wasted, or you didn’t give the masmune to create a second fighter, you had to get lucky.

  4. Forget everything I said about Garland/Chaos. Warmech is the real nightmare boss of Final Fantasy. Only a 1 in 64 chance of hitting him on Tiamat’s bridge, my ass. My first time through the game (I foolishly had Fighter, Black Belt, Thief, Red Wizard) I felt pretty confident about my mid-20’s level party, then I ran into him TWO FRIGGIN TIMES IN A ROW, and he smoked all my guys within two rounds (NUCLEAR SUCKS!). Even with level thirty or forty guys, he normally kills at least one or two, and wins out completely at least one out of every three or four times. He’s worth the 34k in gold and xp.

  5. Darth Revan-… Malak who? When Revan regained his rightful place as overlord of the Sith (at least in my game) he placed himself upon the pinnacle of videogame villains.

Honorable mentions: The Reaper from Resident Evil, the Leviathan from Shadowgate, that golden God critter in Morrowind (he’s an order of magnitude tougher than the “real” boss of the game), that Atlantean monster-thing in Tomb Raider (the T-Rex also gets high marks, but was a little too easy), and the dragon mage/dragon from Dragon Warrior (after beating the mage, you just knew it couldn’t be that easy).

The Lich King.

How bad ass is he? He’s the tormented soul of an orc warlock trapped in a haunted suit of armor frozen in a crystal prison by demonic powers. He creates vast armies of undead warriors with no weapons but his force of will. He is the mastermind behind the mindless zombie scourge. Even the demons fear him.

Not bad for a guy who 1) is dead, and 2) can’t fucking move.

Dr. Robotnik and his evil moustache from all the Sonic games.

I was just thinking of him. I played the original the other day and its still a blast to play.

Bison. Cheating get-you-into-a-corner-and-repeatedly-psycho-punch-you motherfucker.

Adobo.

He’s the kind of guy that does all of his talking with his fists, and so far he’s never lost an argument.

Baatoompt!

If we’re gonna go down the Mario road, there’s only one picture should be up here…

Agreed, a close second being Arthas.

Metal Gear Solid: Sniper Wolf. (wolf chick who you kill with a sniper rifle. Ironically. Or not)

Final Fantasy 8: Cactus Giant Thing. (insanely hard to beat, but worth it, just to see that fucker fall in the sand)

Duke Nukem 3D: That big alien in the football arena. [insert one liner]

Double Dragon: Hilariousy you end up beating your partner!

Metal Gear Solid 2: Metal Gear Ray Army. (a whole army damnit, couldnt believe it)

Thats all I can think of right now.

Evil Otto from Berserk! Any other old-timers out there?..

Scissorman from Clock Tower

and the original Tyrant from Resident Evil

You know, I’m having the hardest damn time thinking of badass, recent villians. I mean, the past couple of Final Fantasys haven’t had good ones, Seperhoweveryouspelloth was decent, and it’s just usually pain in the ass parts of games that make me mad (fuck you and your LAX shennanigans, Pandora Tomorrow). Lavos and Magus were great in Chrono Trigger. Lavos because he was just a total destructive being. Take over the world? Steal the mint? Fuck that. I’ll eat my way out of the earth and rain down fire. And Magus for being bad ONLY as a persepective from the good guys. Hmmm, let me rephrase that. Not neccisarily an evil man, but what he desired to accompish required him to do some evil shit. I dug that. Kefka was cool, if only because of his laugh. And the poisoning. The Nameless One in Planescape Torment. Yes, not the final bad, but some of his incarnations were fuckers . And I can’t thinkg of their names, but the two bads from Grim Fandango. They helped make that game one of the best gaming experiences ever.

I spent a lot of money trying to memorize the moves for this “boss battle”

It has been a while since I played Contra III, but didn’t that boss let the doors close on him and decapitate him when you beat him? If so, that takes him down a notch or two from being a badass.

Yeah, but he’s a giant fucking endoskeleton.

Also, nothing stands in the way of Team Contra. God himself quakes at their might.
