Herc at AICN is reporting that he has received two emails reporting that Angel has been cancelled. No verification on this, so hopefully it’s not true.

Hopefully they have been given enough notice for it to get a great sendoff without any loose ends. There are 6 unscheduled episodes left. Does anyone know how many eps are left to be filmed?

Fuck them indeed. Hopefully the show will be able to go out on a high note and not have things rushed. That’s the main thing I’m worried about. A TV movie or two is better than nothing.

Everything was looking so good for Angel recently, it’s such a solid show - I’m supremely puzzled by this news and saddened.

They passed 100 episodes recently I think. That means syndication money is a lock now. Thus the show was expendable and the endless profits of reruns begins. TV is so wacked.
Fuck this shit. Angel was getting some of the best ratings for that timeslot that the WB had ever gotten this season and along with Smallville, they had a really fucking solid Wendsday night line up, which has been a problem for them in the past, IIRC. They waited until it got to a hundred episodes and then they killed it. Fuckers. Fuck them.
Also, if Gellar doesn’t agree to come back for the finale, this proves she’s a stupid stuck up ungrateful little bitch.
Firefly cancelled, Buffy is gone, Cubs emplode w/ 5 outs to go and now no more Angel. I wish it was April 1st because this is just sick.
I could have sworm I heard the show was picked up. Fucking WB. Get the 100 shows then dump it. The new Firefly news better be true. And speaking of Tru is that crap gonna stick for a second season? Joss really needs to go to HBO. They won’t fuck him over and he can go 7-8 seasons. only 13 episodes a year but it’s better than none.

A statement from The WB:
For the last seven years Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history. Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including Frasier and Friends, the cast, crew, writers and producers of Angel deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB. We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table. In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show’s ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of Angel without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series. David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show.
Hmm…you love the creators, you love the actors, it helped build your network, it’s getting good ratings…sounds like a show that needs to be cancelled to me!

This really makes no sense. If it was truly a business decision as far as syndication…I don’t believe WB would see much if any money from syndication. I assume those profits go to show creators and 20th Century Fox.
Now, if i understand correctly, Angel was getting some bang up ratings this year. The Smallville lead in probably had a lot to do with that, and I think this season has been as strong as many of the classic buffy years. So its not quality, so its gotta be money. I assume WB isnt raking in enough cash even if the ratings are better, so they canned the show. I am pretty sure Angel is more expensive to produce than bullshit like Charmed and Dawson’s Creek.
Ah Fuck. Well…at least they are giving them early notice so they can wrap up the season with some sort of closure. If I am not mistaken, Joss said at the beginning of this season that he plans on ending the show on a note to which the series could end on as well because he was not sure if it would be picked up for next year. Hopefully it will be a slam bang of an ending…with 6 episodes left, I don’t see Angel dying OR Buffy making a reappearance, which definitely does suck.
As for Sarah Michelle Gellar, I love the girl because she was Buffy. I am sure she is grateful for what the show has done for her, but she obviously wants to move on. She made that clear in the multitude of interviews she gave when buffy ended. Its unfortunate that she didnt have “time” to come back, but she is a big star now so she can make those decisions, Hollywood is a bitch. The fans are the ones who truly suffer.
I know its early, but I just want to give a big round of applausal to David Boreanz. This mutha fucker is awesome. I wish him and all the Angel company luck in finding work after the show ends because they are all talented fucking people and they deserve to work moreso than at least 50% of the ppl working in Hollywood right now.
