American Idol 2009

Wow, so no thread yet? Maybe it is losing ratings.

Anyway, my contribution:

This guy = This guy:

That guy was hilarious. Also the wimpy rock star who cried, and the dude with the deep voice that didn’t know how to use it. I liked the Suicide Girl-esque chick with the pink hair. Kind of amazed that the dude from Brokencyde is going to Hollywood. I am already tired of Bikini Girl and Blind Dude.

Kara DiGuardio’s pretty cute though. I might be watching it more than I have in the past.

I caught some of it last night. The cat fight between the new judge and bikini girl was classic.

And despite AI’s public relations attempt to fool us into thinking the show was going to spend more time on talent than the William Hung’s of the world, the show spent the majority of their running time on the William Hung’s of the world. There’s no repackaging. It’s the same boring show.

I like the new judge, although I don’t know why she and Paula were surprised Simon voted yes on Bikini Girl – what are the Pussycat Dolls if not good-looking women with marginal singing ability? If anybody personified the current state of pop music, it’s a girl singing in a bikini.

And that guy with the really deep voice has to have had some sort of medical problem or something. It looked like his Adam’s apple was down in his sternum.

Seacrest trying to high five a blind guy was one of the highlights for me.

Seacrest trying to feign interest in a girl kissing him was up there too.

I couldn’t stop laughing.

yeah he kissed her, just like he jumped in the pool after it.

was a bit of a snore for me. Only surprise was the horror film kid who turned out to be pretty good.

Wait, was it really the guy from Brokencyde? 'Cause that would be hilarious. Brokencyde is so terrible, it would be perfect.

No one last night really stood out as having the “it” factor, except possibly the pink-haired chick.

It was obvious that Simon would put bikini girl through, she wasn’t terrible. She did have a nice backside, but the rest of her was nowhere near as hot as she apparently thought. Richard Dickson said it best, though-- more marketable than many of the others.

I felt a little bad for the blind guy [besides the obvious sympathy for his condition]. He definitely has a nice voice, but like the judges said he seemed out of place without his piano. I don’t imagine him doing too well in Hollywood or with many of the vocal challenges that the season presents. He seems more like a lounge singer-- very talented, but limited in the pop world.

X-Ray was my favorite trainwreck of the evening.

The 16-year old girl in the cowboy hat with the songbook kept reminding me of Heather Graham.

The blond who sang “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” was a standout for me – interesting voice and she’s absolutely adorable.

Is that the guy with the guitar who sang the cactus song? If so, I rewound to watch that trainwreck twice. So funny. “Oh eh eh eh eh oh oh!”

I liked her a lot.

Deep voice guy had me almost crying during the closing montage. I kept thinking it wasn’t that funny, then he’d sing a line and I’d lose it. I still feel like that had to be a put on. I almost feel like I need to hunt that guy down and start a conversation with him out of the blue to see if he actually talks like that.

All of the teases leading up to the blind guy my wife was adamant that he wasn’t blind. Then they show all these pictures from him growing up, like on a ski slope with the instructor with the bright “VISUALLY IMPAIRED” thing on his jacket and I was like “Wow, he’s been faking this for a really long time…”.

It was obvious she was going to be horrible from the beginning but I desperately wanted her to be good and stick around. I can see the Heather Graham thing, but I told my wife she totally reminded me of Isla Fisher in Wedding Crashers.

It seems like all tattoo parlors should have a dictionary on hand at all times, you know. Never hurts to double-check real quick.

So far, Judge Kara has added nothing to the show except even more bland self-centered smugiosity.

My favorite schadenfreude is watching the moist desperation in the eyes of the weak ones who know they’re bad.

Yes, X-ray was the cactus tune guy. And then he did a little dance. Or something. But his attempts at a mariachi scat were the best.

Pink cowboy hat girl wasn’t too bad. And she’s young enough that if she applies herself she could possibly make it in a few years [on to the show, not the industry].

I think the one I felt most embarrassed watching was the wannabe-rock star guy. He defined the word ‘poseur’. I couldn’t feel sympathy for him-- his friends should have told him he sucked from the get-go before subjugating himself to the humiliation. And anyone who cries at the drop of a hat like that is plain weird.

Dude, I want to be a rock star, too. Who the f doesn’t? But I know my limitations, man. That’s why I bought Rock Band. Then I can drink with friends and be as tone deaf as I want to be. In private.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Spot on. I hate her already.

She knows how to write hit songs that have actually been released this decade, that gives her a pretty big advantage over Randy and Paula.

Sure, but she doesn’t have to act all holier than thou about it. She stank of ego.

This is that pink-haired chick who made it to Vegas week. Photo gotten from her bands MySpace page, so I’m assuming the the other three are her band mates. Apparently she was also an employee of the tattoo shop where Britney went nuts and shaved her head last year.
