Alec Baldwin is a great dad

I always knew Alec’s private and public demeanor were drastically different, but he’s a living Jekyll & Hyde. This is just insane:

An enraged Alec Baldwin unleashed a volcanic tirade of threats and insults on his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, calling her a “thoughtless little pig,” and bashing her mother Kim Basinger – and TMZ has obtained the whole thing unfiltered and raw. And we’ve learned, a family law judge was so alarmed after hearing the tape, she has temporarily barred Baldwin from having any contact with his child. Ireland failed to answer her father’s scheduled phone call from New York on April 11, Alec went berserk on her voice mail, saying “Once again, I have made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone,” adding, “you have insulted me for the last time.” Switching his train of thought, Baldwin then exercised his incredible parenting skills and took a shot at his ex-wife, declaring, “I don’t give a damn that you’re 12-years-old or 11-years-old, or a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn’t care about what you do.” The irate Baldwin went on to say, “You’ve made me feel like s**t” and threatened to “straighten your ass out.” “This crap you pull on me with this goddamn phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother,” screamed Baldwin, “and you do it to me constantly over and over again.” Before hanging up, Baldwin warned the child, “You better be ready Friday the 20th to meet with me.” That’s tomorrow. We’ve learned that on Wednesday, Los Angeles County Superior Court commissioner Maren Nelson heard the tape and temporarily suspended Baldwin’s visitation rights. A hearing is set for May 4, where the judge could permanently deny Baldwin visitation or contact with Ireland. Calls to Basinger’s attorneys, celebrity lawyers Neal Hersh and Judy Bogen, were not returned. Baldwin’s lawyer, Vicki Greene, told TMZ, “Whatever happened yesterday was sealed and confidential. What you’re telling me you’ve got you shouldn’t have.” UPDATE: Basinger’s publicist, Annette Wolfe, told TMZ: “The voicemail speaks for itself.” UPDATE: A friend of Alec Baldwin’s just contacted TMZ to say that the actor called Ireland last week and apologized for his outburst. The friend added that Ireland is the most important thing in the world to Alec and that he is frustrated because over the last six years, Kim has “tried everything” to alienate Ireland from him. UPDATE: Alec Baldwin’s spokesperson released the following statement to the TV show “EXTRA”: “In the best interest of the child, Alec will do what the mother is pathologically incapable of doing … keeping his mouth shut and obeying the court order. The mother and her lawyer leaked this sealed material in violation of a court order. Although Alec acknowledges that he should have used different language in parenting his child, everyone who knows him privately knows what he has been put through for the past six years.”

The audio tape.

The transcript:

“Hey I wanna tell you something okay, and I wanna leave a message for you right now because again its 10:30 here in New York on a Wednesday and once again I’ve made an ass of myself trying to get to a phone to call you at a specific time. When the time comes for me to make the phone call I stop whatever I’m doing and I go and I make that phone call at eleven-o-clock in the morning in New York and if you don’t pick up the phone at ten-o-clock at night and you don’t even have that god damn phone turned on. I want you to know something okay, I’m tired of playing this game with you. I’m leaving this message with you to tell you, you have insulted me for the last time. You have insulted me, you don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being, I don’t give a damn if you’re 12-years-old, or 11-years-old, or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass, who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned, you have humiliated me for the last time with this phone, and when I come out there next week, I’m gonna fly out there for the day just to straighten you out on this issue, I’m gonna let you know just how disappointed in you I am and how angry I am with you that you’ve done this to me again. You have made me feel like shit and you have made me feel like a fool over and over and over again, and this crap you pull on me with this god damn phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother and you do it to me constantly, and over and over again. I am gonna get on a plane or I am gonna come out there for the day and I’m gonna straighten your ass out when I see you, do you understand me? I’m gonna really make sure you get it. Then I’m gonna get on a plane and I’m gonna turn around and I’m gonna come home. So you better be ready Friday, the 20th, to meet with me so I’m gonna let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are. You are a rude thoughtless little pig, okay.”

Just a few hours before he blasted his daughter on her voice mail, Alec Baldwin had a few laughs at Ireland’s expense on “Late Night with David Letterman.” After telling Dave that his 11-year-old was “doing great,” Baldwin regaled the live audience with a story about Ireland’s new affinity for dancing in public, then playfully mocked a few of her favorite moves. When Dave asked if Ireland’s new passion was embarrassing for him, Alec replied, “Hey, she could be out stealing cars.” Funny he should mention that. Shortly after the taping, Baldwin tried to call his daughter. We all know what happened next.

Ehh…Jekyll and Hyde? Your parents never got mad and said really cruel things from time to time? It happens.

Diva, I wanna tell you something. I already posted this in the Alec Baldwin pays a kid’s tuition thread, okay? I am SICK and TIRED of you pulling this CRAP! I am gonna come up there and STRAIGHTEN your ass OUT! Then I’m gonna get on a plane, and I’m gonna turn around, and go home.

Seriously… what a rude, little pig. I don’t care how old you are… just a rude little pig.

A man getting angry and yelling at his kids? *gasp* Seriously, if people make a big deal out of this, then America has officially become detached from its balls.

“How about I have you spend the summer with Uncle Daniel. Would you like that, ya little brat? I’ll even tell him to put you in the guest room with only a half-bath. That’ll learn ya.”

Didn’t Basinger’s people release this tape? The real story here is “Kim Basinger is a fucking bitch of an ex-wife”.

I like 30 Rock too much to care about this.

The whole thing is absurd. The fact that it was released. That fact that it’s actually showing up on legit news outlets. The “pig” comment rubs me the wrong the way but aside from that this is just a parent involved in a bad custody battle who’s upset with his kid.

Matchstick for the win.

As usual.

Sheesh, what the heck is wrong with kids nowadays?

Or Uncle Stephen. Nothing like spending a summer driving around in a Jesus Van spreading the Gospel.

Alec Baldwin explains himself on the Web By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer 33 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - As Alec Baldwin’s angry words to his daughter were being broadcast around the world, the 49-year-old actor explained himself Friday on his Web site. “Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child,” he wrote. “I’m sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child. I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. (Although I hope you never do.) I am sorry for what happened. But I am equally sorry that a court order was violated, which had deliberately been put under seal in this case.” A voicemail Baldwin left for his 11-year-old daughter, in which he can be heard calling her “a rude, thoughtless little pig,” was published Thursday by celebrity news site TMZ.com. Baldwin and his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, have been engaged in bitter custody disputes over their daughter, Ireland, since the couple divorced in 2002. “In such public cases, your opponents attempt to take a picture of you on your worst day and insist that this is who you are as a person,” Baldwin wrote. “Outside the doors of divorce court, I have friends, I have respect from people I work with and I have a normal relationship with my daughter. All of that is threatened whenever one enters a court room.” Meanwhile, Baldwin’s attorney, Vicki Greene, said she filed a court order Friday “to determine how the tape got leaked and to determine whether actions should be taken again Kim Basinger, or her attorneys, or Harvey Levin (who runs TMZ.com) and anybody else associated with the leaking of the tape and the violation of the court orders to keep the proceedings closed.” Greene told TV’s “The Insider” that “anyone involved in this case should want to protect Ireland, so whatever happened was either intentional, reckless or negligent.” The matter is set for a hearing June 5, Greene said. Basinger’s attorney, Neal Hersh, weighed in the family saga Friday on TMZ.com. “I am concerned that Mr. Baldwin’s recent statement, wherein he attempts to shift responsibility to Kim and her lawyers for his issues with Ireland, shows just how out of touch he is with the reality and gravity of the situation,” Hersh said. Basinger’s spokeswoman had no comment Friday.

No, I never got yelled at like that.

Yelling at a kid is one thing. Calling them names because of a missed phone call is quite another. The turn around from praising your kid on national TV a few hours before leaving her a hate filled voicemail seems pretty night and day to me. I know parents get upset sometimes, but this seems par for the couurse with Baldwin. Having heard stories from coworkers who did organizing events with Baldwin as a speaker pretty much confirms every rumor that’s out there of him being a total asshole. That said, Basinger is just as bad for having released this and they both suck for putting their kid in the middle of their divorce.

So yeah, I think this all insane. And yeah, I’ll still watch 30 Rock.

Okay, dad!..

If the worst thing Baldwin calls his daughter when he gets really ticked off is a “rude pig”, then I must’ve had serial killers for parents, because that’s small ammo comparatively. That it’s getting blown so out of proportion is the real tragedy.

It’s funnier if you imagine him leaving the message as Blake in Glengarry Glen Ross:

“What’s my name? FUCK YOU. That’s my name.”

Plus, this is Alec Baldwin’s kid. They didn’t release the tape of her returning his call and telling him to suck her fucking cock, followed by, “I love you too, daddy.”

Indeed, not a week went by in my life with my father that I wasn’t the target of some profanity laden insult or threat of physical harm, hell, that little message would have been a day at the beach for me. I can feel for a person in Baldwin’s position, the whole idea of being famous in his way is one tenuous fucking agreement with your emotional health, Exhibit A: This nonsense.

I guess I just had unusual parents, because this doesn’t seem standard to me at all, but still, my gut reaction was that releasing the phone message is a thousand times worse and less honorable, and that once everything is factored in, Alec might as well be the victim here. Then again, I do enjoy my 30 Rock.

First being given the name “Ireland,” and now this.

Was that Alec Baldwin or Devin on that call?
