What was the 1st Video game you ever played. It can be either the game or the system. Mine was Intelivision and Coleco Vision way back in 1984. We used to play that Rocky vs Mr T for Coleco Vision. We used to play the basketball and football for Intelevision. I used to think that was the greatest game back in the day.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Krull and Plaque Attack were all some of the first games I played.
The problem is that I can’t remember what system I owned first. It was either the Atari 2600 or the Texas Instruments Home Computer cartridge thingie. It’s been forever. All I know is that I played the hell out of Burgertime on both machines.
I couldn’t tell you for sure what the first game I ever played was. My uncle (who is only 6 years older than me) had an Atari when I was a kid, so it was probably E.T. or Frogger. Maybe Pitfall. The first game system I could call my own was the good ol’ NES. Mario and Duck Hunt, baby.
That original Atari Football with the X’s and O’s.
Winter Games, on Commodore 64. It was the motherfucking shit.
Commodore 64’s sports games truly elevated my childhood to another level. Winter Games, then Summer Games, then California Games, Leaderboard Golf, Hardball, Dr. J vs Bird, Jordan vs Bird. People don’t know how great the pre-Madden, pre-Techmo Bowl era really was.
Combat on the Atari 2600.
My first computer game was “Telengard 64” on the Commodore 64 (it came out on a cassette tape!). I found an emulator online, and fire that puppy up every so often.
Super Mario World.

Its crazy how we used to think those were awesome games ,but you compare them to todays games ,and it looks like that was 50 years ago.

I started playing video games before home consoles were invented. I played Pac-Man, Star Castle, Omega Race, Space Invaders…all in arcades, pizza places and convenience stores. The weird thing was that my dad played them before I did. He was the Pac-Man master.
My first console? My dad actually bought a Pong machine. Yes. Pong.

And if you count text-based computer games, I’ve forgotten the titles. Castlevania?

I remember the big text game was Zork. There were at least four of those. I also remember when Wizardry came along on the Apple II, we were all amazed by the line drawings of corridors.

It’s time to get geeky and point out that home consoles were on the market several years before those games hit arcades.
I really couldn’t say what the first game I played was. Probably something in the arcades though. Unless handhelds count?

Damn it, you’re right. Wikipedia is our friend. I certainly didn’t know anybody with an Atari 2600 until after I played those games.

All I remember is that when I was very very young we had one of the Pong machines, and that I was very into the early games Asteroids, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, etc.
So not sure … it was either Pong or one of the Vector based games …

Agreed with the Pong rip-off here, though, I do think I was like 4 years old. I remember it had a light gun game, that was pretty neat. My first solid memory of video games though was going to a friends birthday party, where, as the entertainment, his parents rented, I repeatrented the nes, Super Mario Bro’s, and Duckhunt (they were two seperate cartridges at the time). I was so addicted I begged and pleaded with my parents, I’m pretty sure my dad caved just because he wanted to play Top Gun (he loved flight sims, still does).
Funny enough, in a full circle kind of thing, I just bought a DS this weekend, and am loving the hell out of the new Super Mario Brothers.
Wolfenstein 3D, bitches!! I was around 8 or 9 and I remember my oldest brother talking about computers just starting to coume out with modems not too long after. Cccrraazzzyy!
I vaguely remember playing Asteroids at some pizza place when I was little. It’s really a tough call as to whether that was the first game I played or not. The first game I played with any regularity was one of the Pac-Man games though, probably Ms. Pac-Man.

It had the worst controller ever! I skipped it and went from Atari to Colecovision. I think Coleco was it’s main competitor at that time.
